Advanced Metrics Nonsense

WTF, speaking of Muhammad, he's got some growing up to do. His teammate (Drew) hit a buzzer beater (his 3rd game-winner of the season) and Muhammad didn't celebrate with the team because he didn't get the ball.

Are they same people that said Jae Crowder was a top 10 pick? Lol

Yeah. They are wrong 30% of the time, and Crowder can still prove himself.

They aren't the guys who said Olawakandi was a #1 pick. That's for sure. The guys who choose players like him are wrong 60% of the time.

Andrea Bargnani? Possibly the worst player* in NBA history, and he was a #1 overall pick.

*He's currently probably the worst rebounder in the NBA for his position. He doesn't play any defense. At best, he's average in scoring efficiency. GMs still think he's good because he can score 20 points on 18 FGAs.

Totally agree about bargnani. This draft looks pretty terrible. The only player that I like this year is Marcus Smart.

Success rate with picking college players in the draft?...the wins produced model has a 70% success rate with getting quality players with lottery picks...GMs have a 40% success rate. They're laughing all the way to the bank, but that doesn't make them right.

I'd like to see that stat from an arbitrary source.

Jack Cooley is the 4th best player in college basketball.

Think about the ridiculousness of that list.

I know you worship these guys as gods, but let's give a little credence here to common sense.

Shabazz plays no D, and has no passing skills. If I have a #1 pick, that's exactly what I want from an off guard. Right?

I would like to see Oladipo keep his numbers up longer...I'm somewhat skeptical, but so far it is apparent that Muhammad is a 1-dimensional player.

He might play no D, but he shoots 46% from the field, 42% from three, gets five boards a game, and gets to the line six times a game.

He's not a #1 pick, but he's better than Jack Cooley.

Jack Cooley - 58%, 50% (only 2 attempts) 11.3 rpg*, and gets to the line 5 times a game.

*Very few players do that in major conferences. It's extremely rare. Anthony Davis played more minutes and only averaged 10.4 rpg

Would you take Jack Cooley with a top five pick?

saw a stat earlier that James Harden had 64 points on his last 27 shots or something.

If I had a top 5 pick I would more than likely trade down, but yes (you could probably trade back a lot and still get him). He looks like the best big in the draft right now. Somebody like Noel probably has more potential.

Kevin Love - 17.5 ppg, .644 TS%, 10.6 rpg, 1.4 bpg, 1.9 apg
Jack Cooley - 14.8 ppg, .613 TS%, 11.3 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 0.9 apg

Jack Cooley is looking a lot like Kevin Love did going into the draft.

Do they even have an advanced metric that can measure what LeBron is doing?

For the season he's 2nd to Durant with most wins produced. Durant has played more minutes though. It's going to be a tight race. I think you speak of specifically what he's been doing recently? Going 13/14, and again going 10/11 this weeek...yeah those kinds of games definitely satisfy the gods of advanced metrics.

I just don't get Mike Woodson. Paul, Bledsoe, and Crawford combined for 28 of 45 and Ronnie Brewer doesn't get a single minute. What a dope.

MJ's first picks -

Adam Morisson - Roy, Brewer, Lowry, Sefolosha, Millsap
Brandan Wright - Noah, Hawes, Dudley, Afflalo, Splitter, Gasol
Augustin - Rush, Hibbert, J McGee, R Anderson, K Koufos, Ibaka, Batum, Pekovic, Jordan, Asik
Henderson - Lawson, D Collison, T Gibson, D Blair, J Meeks, Budinger, D Green
Walker - K Leonard, Manimal, C Parsons, I Thomas
MKG - Give him a pass on that for now

Those are just the players he passed on that I think are good. If you looked at the list, I'm sure you'll come up with different options. He's 0 for his first 5.

Brandan Wright - Noah

This is my favorite I think. They could have had Joakim Noah, ended up with Brandan Wright (who?). To be fair, I don't think a whole lot of people saw Noah becoming what he is in the NBA, I know I didn't.

He was a great rebounder, defender, and shot a high % in college, so the stat guys loved Noah.

Actually, on second thought Brandan Wright is pretty good. I always mix him up with the Williams (Juwad?) from UNC. Wright is an underrated player, he's just buried on the depth chart in Dallas (like you said, "who?). He has put in quality minutes every year. So according to me, Jordan made a nice pick (still not nearly as good as Noah or Gasol), but then Jordan immediately traded him.

Yeah I just looked it up and Wright was picked 8th overall that year and in his second season averaged 8.3 ppg and 4 rebounds in 17.6 minutes, highest in his career. So I guess he's a productive player, not necessarily what you want with your lottery pick though. Especially when you suck as bad as the Bobcats.
