'13 AL RB Johnathan Ford (no longer a Vandy commit)

If family played a major role in his decision, then its Auburn all the way.

Just like Santos last year; if your family members are big fans of the local football team, its likely too much to overcome.

If a influential parent or "family" is in favor of one school, that is the school that most recruits will pick, even if they are torn between two or more schools or like a school other than the one favored by the family. That's the way it works, usually. It's rare for a kid to pick a school that is not No. 1 with momma or dad or the group. All of which is to say we're probably screwed.

CBJ and staff know and hence the commitment last night. For the life of me I can't understand why a big time running back doesn't see the opportunity here. Unbelievable.

:crazy::loco:

opportunity yes, but most probably did their homework and looked at our oline depth after this year. We will be young, inexperienced, and questioned there next year. I don't see big time backs this year jumping at the chance to spend their 2 money years behind a question mark.

Auburn, if the year of going with family holds true and it means we get Bell, then thats fine.

If its distance for family, then Knoxville is closer.

New Hope, AL to Knoxville, TN 3 hrs and 24 mins

New Hope, AL to Auburn, AL 3 hrs and 39 mins

Tennessee Volunteers are family! Not haters that starts fights with others.

At Tennessee, where he's built relationships with running backs coach Jay Graham and former Auburn assistant Tommy Thigpen, Ford says there was a lot to like.

"The relationship is unbelievable that I have with (new head coach Butch) Jones," Ford said. "Tennessee, they have great facilities, and I know how they would use me in that spread offense."

Ford clearly valued his relationships with the coaching staffs at both schools, saying he can talk to Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee about anything and that he likes how running backs coach Tim Horton plans to use him.

"Auburn, I've always dreamed about playing in Coach Malzahn's offense, and this is a big opportunity I'd have to do that," Ford said. "The coaching staff, those guys are people that can help me out, coach me up and help me get to the next level."

He gone!

What did he say about UT?

I didn't hear the interview, just going from previous posts.

If I understand it correctly, he has been impressed with Butch & Company, really likes the offensive style. Seems like the family pressure weighs heavily on him tho.

Either way, tomorrow we know for sure.

Wish it worked that way in Derrick Green's recruitment.

Here's my take on it. I was driving during the interview and just now stopped. I heard comments that could be positives or negatives for both schools. He seemed to say better things about CBJ as a person, but better things about Mahlzons offense. We know his dads stance, so the family role looks positive for auburn. But them they asked him about telling vandy about decommitting. This is the short version of how I remember his response

"it was really hard to tell vandy that. " (then a minute or so getting off track talking about SEC football and growing up) "and it's just a hard thing to do to tell a school no that you grew up watching"

During that last little part he paused like he thought he was saying too much. I can't remember where the pause was, but I know it was towards the last few words. He then went on to openly praise(without being asked) the auburn program and fans without mentioning tennessee at all. It almost seemed apologetic since he knew that the Birmingham station was mostly listened to by auburn vans vs. vol fans.

I could very well have been hearing things because I wanted to hear them, and he may have been trying to calm the auburn fans down that we're beginning to lose faith after his big tweet. he could have still been talking about Vandy.

I'm still positive, but tomorrow we will see. Go Vols!

Yep, swing and a miss. IMO
CBJ gave it a run though.

That's what I picked up on too.

Gerry Hamilton

Prospect- Johnathan Ford, RB, New Hope (Ala.)
Announcement- Noon Wednesday
Quick Take- Ford was committed to Vanderbilt for five months and flying under the radar until tearing it up as a senior. Following official visits to Tennessee and Auburn, the 5-foot-10.5, 180-pounder officially re-opened his recruitment. At noon, he will make his announcement after putting off a Monday scheduled decision. The in-state team is the favorite.
Projection- Auburn

Just wait till Carl lawson meets him in the backfield...Oh wait..

If the coaches know then Skeeter should know. Shoutout to Skeeter!

Skeeter has said a couple of times that the coaches aren't saying anything and he hasn't heard anything about Ford for some reason.

An Alabama kid who says his favorite team has always been Auburn. Unless Auburn didn't offer him I have never seen a situation where this would go well for anyone else recruiting him. Same with Von Bell for us I think.
