'13 AL RB Johnathan Ford (no longer a Vandy commit)

The thing that worries me is we could possibly only land 20 kids in this class with how it's playing out. Not sure we are in a position to leave 7 spots open with where we are. I get that some will point to "but we can take more kids next year". While true, 7 less kids on scholarship is almost like we are self improsing penalties and we will not win in the SEC doing that. When we did not land a top back last year, people said "next year". If you look at other teams in the SEC who have hired new coaches this year, all of them found RBs for this class. Some found several. Not a good sign IMO.

I am honestly more worried about the lack of OL taken this year. No RB's is not good at all either though.

Remember signing 27 guys would have meant cutting a few kids after spring practice.

IMO we sign 21-22 on wed.

Don't wanna be negative Nancy here, but all signs point to AU. IF only CBJ and his staff had a full year. Hate wishing my life away, but I can't wait to see next year's class.

It's a start. Next year's cycle will be a lot of fun to follow. We're gonna be in the market to take around 30. It'll be a lot more exciting than this year, given the numbers and legacies coming through.

I keep hearing this refrain, but what it says to me is that people are hopeful that maybe CBJ can pull in a good class when everything is in his favor. He'll have a ton of legacy recruits, a lot of scholarships, a huge year for in-state recruits, etc.

To me, the best judge of a person's abilities is how they do when the odds are stacked against them....how they cope when facing difficult circumstances, not the most favorable.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen little that leads me to believe this staff is anything other than average recruiters. Maybe the conventional wisdom on Ford and Levenberry and Boyd is wrong, and maybe I am also. Regardless, this class appears to be nothing more than ordinary by UT standards, and we need CBJ to be extraordinary.

Another thing I will mention and most won't like it. I am concerned with the fact that our lone holdover from the previous staff was the RB coach and I would imagine had the strongest connections to our RB recruits. It seems that has not paid off at all as we could go 0 for 35 with RBs we offered. Maybe we get a surprise before NSD, but it does not look good at all.

I'll agree with you and speculate we add Dobbs, Miller, Brown, Levenberry, and Bell. I'll take that haul everyday.

He was kind of left on an island. Time to step up Mr. Hill.

Yeah I hear ya. Graham and Dooley put all their eggs in D. Greens basket. He told them many times he was a Vol. They passed on multiple quality backs for Green. And it backfired.

Ford would be a Vol if Auburn hadn't offered.

Hopefully now with a coaching staff full of proven winners and tireless recruiters, who are focusing big time on TN HS players, Jalen Hurd will be that elite back we've been after. I also think we land one of the good RB's out of GA that we're in on early.

I think CJG likely learned a valuable lesson in recruiting this cycle, a bird in the hand. Take Clemson for instance, they were leaders for D. Green way back in the summer but didn't want to roll the dice on him since he was set on waiting until Dec/Jan to announce. So Clemson focused on T. Dye and took his commitment instead of courting D. Green for 6 more months.

Graham could have had Folston and Turman if they he pushed for a commitment. I don't think UT will be waiting until NSD for their RB commitments in this 2014 cycle.

IMO

To add to this, we took 3 last year. It is no coaches fault that Borque has no heart. Q Watson wimped out also and we have to wait and see on Hill. If Dooley was still coach - and I'm glad he's not - we would have D. Green.

It sucks that we are striking out this year.

We've gotta win before we can seal the deal with a lot of the big time guys.

Auburn getting Lawson, Ford, and Barber sucks. I bet all 3 guys just bought new escalades yesterday. I actually believe that I hate Auburn more then Bama and that is a lot!!
