Not a logical argument. If they lose, they're not the better team. The better team wins. That Arkansas team was good offensively, but terrible all year defensively. Mallet was also incredibly overrated. Average at Michigan, average at Arkansas. Not really. They were gifted a game, but Arky was the better team, even with no defense whatsoever.

Neither niblik's comment nor the one he replied to were all that classy, but I suppose that's the nature of a forum. I will say though, as an outsider, it's odd for me to see Tennessee fans using conference dominance (i.e. the national titles of 4 teams over 7 years to proclaim the superiority of all 14) to validate their team. Tennessee has enough history of their own, they'd be great in any conference! Who cares that they're in the SEC, they'd dominate anywhere. Likewise, OSU has 7 Nat'l Titles, who cares what conference we play in? We just won one a decade ago. Michigan has 11 Nat'l Titles, they just won one in '97. Miami had no problems winning titles in the Big Least. USC didn't have a whole lot of trouble in the Pac 10 (12). Tennessee has 6, they can stand on their own. I don't understand the need to disrespect one another? The other element that's odd to me about conference allegiance is you're basically hyping up your rival. OSU and Michigan fans would rather off ourselves than cheer one another on. Not criticizing here, just an odd concept to me. But eh, the world is a strange place I suppose.
Anyway, Vonn Bell eh. Great player lol.

Nah, my logic is based on watching both teams play the entire 2010 season. That was one of the better OSU teams in recent years, against an Arkansas team that was solid but not great. Good offensively, but very porous defensively. Conversely, OSU was very strong that year, few weaknesses (got gouged once by an effective Wisconsin run-game, but otherwise difficult to beat). Remember, Arkansas that year gave up 65 points to an Auburn team that only managed to score 22 on a relatively-weak Oregon defense. Not that it really matters, though. Winning the Sugar Bowl while you're on probation is equivalent to winning a cake the day after you've started a diet lol.Your logic argument is based upon the outcome of a single contest being truly indicative of relative abilities, which isn't remotely true and is why many competitions use series and round robin tourneys to decide winners.
Modern college football is steeped in speed and the Big whatever number it is this week has fallen behind there, likely to never catch up.
FTR,OSU was also gifted that national title. Michigan having to beat a pathetic Wazzu team was embarrassing for the AA and helped bring about a change.

I think the SEC has been the best conference over the last decade, and will likely continue to be given the recruiting classes of the last few years. There's no debating that. I think Bama, FLA, LSU and UGA are the four best teams in the country year in and year out. But that doesn't mean that everyone else is garbage, OSU included. I disagree with you that the 2002 title was gifted to OSU, a 14 win season and a competitive game with the team that won the Nat'l Title the year prior is no gift. By your logic USC was gifted their titles (sanctions or not), Texas doesn't deserve theirs, Oklahoma theirs, etc. because none played in the SEC. That's silly. From 1980-2000 the SEC was only in the Nat'l Title discussion 4-5 times, should we ask you guys to give back your title from '98 because the SEC wasn't the power conference at the time? Sometimes good teams come from outside of the power conference of the moment, no shame in that. Just my 2 cents. Look out btw, if we're talking conference allegiance, OSU and Michigan have both had two consecutive classes in the top 5 over the last two years, 2014 will likely be the same, so I think we'll at least be capable of competing with the #3, #4 teams in the SEC (no chance whatsoever on the top two lol). No one's beating Bama, I'm amazed A&M (a mid-range B12 team the year prior) could.
Okay, I'll stop derailing this thread and shut up now haha. I just enjoy this kind of back and forth being that the only person I get to talk to frequently who's an SEC-fan is my grandpa (born and raised in Tenn, diehard Volunteer fan), and his hearing is a bit rough these days! lol. It's not so much talking football with him, it's screaming and hoping that his hearing aid is working that particular day.
Thanks! I promise this will be my last off-topic post in this thread!
Here's a picture of Vonn Bell in an orange shirt as a peace offering:

Not wanting go too in-depth, I will say this: The reason for SEC conference pride is two fold.
One, because southern people are the most regionally prideful group in the country IMO, and college football is a favorite pastime.
Two, for a long time, the Notre Dames, Michigans, Ohio States... Of the world garnered most of the national attention (media and otherwise) and many in the SEC felt like we were forgotten even though our brand of football was elite.
Now, the BCS format has allowed the SEC a seat at the table, and the national title teams of the SEC have consistently proven their brand is the best. Oddly enough, OSU's consecutive losses to two different SEC teams has played a huge roll in the perception of the SEC, as Ohio State was perceived at the time as king of college football.
I concur 100%. We Southerners still have intense pride in our state, and the South as a whole. We regard anyone outside the SEC&other Southern schools as Yankee enemy schools. It brings immense pride to sat UTENNESSEE WHIPPED OHIO st AND MICHIGAN. Just as Bama is proud of whipping Yankee darling`s ND. We have several marquee victorys over the Gold Domers too. The most intense hate is for bammer or Fla,but I still pull for SEC over the Yankees as do most rural Southerners. I hate bammer and would rather lose to Ohio 10x as lose to bammer, but I still pull for bammer vs OOC schools. That said,I really hope we get Bell and Lawson and a stud RB. If we do,we could seriously compete with anyone. GO VOLUNTEERS!

Bama fans are conceding Bell. One even mentioned they don't have room. Well, duh. They are already 8 over before they get even another commit. Yet they will tell u they have 5 spots left. Saban math at its finest.
Back on topic, Bell will be a Vol unless OSU swipes him.
