The Atlanta Braves Thread IV

the lefties surrounding him is convenient, but let's not kid ourselves and act like the Arizona offense was bad. 8th in runs scored last year. Hill, Montero, Kubel, Goldschmidt were a solid lineup.

They were good no doubt. Those guys can flat hit, but imo not gonna beat our production this year. We will score a lot of runs if Uggla remembers how to hit and McCann is healthy. Dang though Martin will really enhance that production in that park.

I can get that, but the impact Jackie Robinson had on the US is undeniable. If we try to give a holiday for every important Civil Rights leader, we'll never work lol

Robinson debuted in 1947. Nothing meaningful changed for almost a decade. Rosa Parks is the one who kicked off the civil rights movement in 1955.

Not taking anything away at all from Jackie Robinson, but it was just sports. The war began later.

That's cool, although creating prospects, can't you just make them awesome?

you can, but the way they did it they just didn't do all of them awesome. they did the obvious guys... like one year 'rickey henderson' was the obvious top pick. or Larry Walker.

But they also had years where the top guys were al-leiter or jay-buhner ish.

Again, I'm sure there is a lot of stuff that has to be ironed out in a league constitution and stuff.

Brown vs. Board of Education happened in 1954 if I'm not mistaken, which really started it IMO.

But I think that Robinson showed not only could blacks compete with whites in something, that they can show immense grace also. JMO.

Seems really fun to play. just not sure I have the time nor can constitute 40 bucks for it lol

that's always been my thing. it seems awesome but idk how much i would play. plus i figured they'd come out with a new one kinda soon so i waited.

feeling i get, though, is that it isn't like a console game where you have to do everything and really want to play. it's a sim game. you outline your plan/strategy and get the team you enjoy, and see how it goes. if it sucks, start over.

35 bucks is actually a ****ing bargain if you think about it. what is mlb the show? 65 after tax?

That's actually a good point. With baseball video games I usually plan the first month of the season to get the hang of it, then simulate the rest of the seasons and play the playoffs. Then I love doing the off season stuff.

Hmm....that's interesting...I might do it.

this is my thing. i like building the team and seeing how it goes, not doing every at bat of a season. which means OOTP would be ideal.

mlb the show has always just pissed me off, so i'm definitely giving this game a shot.

Just have to figure out what computer, etc. to put it on. it'll be ideal release time at the start of april.

I might actually try this. We got a new HP (IDK what kind) but it runs really well. It should handle it fine. My little acer netbook couldn't handle it lol

I just hope we Lock up jhey, freeman, upton real soon. Quick ? over/under 45 saves for Kimbrel this year?

UNDER IMO

Justin Upton probably won't get locked up. Atlanta has to...and I mean HAS TO lock up J-Hey, not even for baseball reasons.

JHey is the guy who gets locked up. Has to be.
If they find a way to get Justin long term i'll be SHOCKED. Because he is either gonna fizzle out and may not be worth a long investment... or he's gonna go nuts and get straight cash in 3 years.

i don't know if a little chrome book would handle it. my older dell laptop sucks now and idk how to clean it up. so we'll see.

Agree on Heyward. But I want Justin more than 3 years

Of course! But unless Mark Cuban buys the Braves (please, please, please) it's not going to happen. The Braves will always have a payroll of $100M or less. Unless you want the Braves to just go with team control pitchers for the next ten years, that's not feasible IMO.

Yeah I know it just drives me nuts its hard to compete against teams with payrolls through the roof unless you develop guys like JHey throughout your roster. Cuban would rather buy a team like the freaking Cubs than the Braves. Course there is always that guy Arthur Blank, he's loaded.:)

this is the window, bottom line. a rotation of Beachy, Medlen, Minor, Hudson, Teheran with this pen and the potential of the lineup... could easily be Atlanta's year in the next three.

I thought Blank was struggling financially? Why did I think that?

The Upton gets was basically Atlanta say "It's our time" which I love. This was a move that gets you a World Series. Maybe not this year but in 2014/2015.

Your right I agree. This bullpen is gonna be straight nasty next couple of years. Two power righty's, one nasty lefty and just an all around good lefty.

Didn't know that. Anyway nobody can buy for like 5 more years right?

Not sure. I am under the impression they can sell whenever they want.

It says Blank is worth $1.3B right now. He could buy the Braves (I think).

Blank is fine, as far as I know. Liberty has held onto the team long enough that they can sell, since of course they only reason they acquired the team in the first place was tax benefits. (Great ownership.) Blank has said he's not interested in the Braves anymore, but who knows. He's the perfect owner if it could somehow happen.

Post on OOTP to come. Dealing with some kid drama.
