Holographic principle and string theory have the same experimental evidence to support them. Essentially none.

Nothing has been proven yet. Just like the big bang and countless other theories. I think it makes sense and so do alot of scientist. To each his own I guess.

If I may form an opinion, string theory is interesting, but I think scientists like Hawking have too much interest in it. It doesn't explain everything.
