Young men giving up on marriage: ‘Women aren’t women anymore’ | LifeSiteNews.com

January 10, 2013 - Fewer young men in the US want to get married than ever, while the desire for marriage is rising among young women, according to the Pew Research Center.

Pew recently found that the number of women 18-34 saying that having a successful marriage is one of the most important things rose from 28 percent to 37 percent since 1997. The number of young adult men saying the same thing dropped from 35 percent to 29 percent in the same time.

“The problem? This new phenomenon has changed the dance between men and women,” Venker wrote. With feminism pushing them out of their traditional role of breadwinner, protector and provider – and divorce laws increasingly creating a dangerously precarious financial prospect for the men cut loose from marriage – men are simply no longer finding any benefit in it.

Let's face it, the reason is because women just give it up easier these days. Young men just want strange all the time and don't want to give up the game.

If you go into a marriage worrying about divorce laws then you're doing it wrong

I am too young to make this statement with authority, but I feel that women are not made like they were in yesteryear.

I feel women are more fun nowadays but the percentage that are marriage material are dropping fast.

Why this should be true, it's something you have to consider. Love is blind and people change.

There is no compelling reason to legally attach yourself to anyone. I think marriage as a legal institution should be abolished. It should be strictly a religious affair.

I don't want kids and I don't want to give up half of my already little belongings and earnings. I don't follow any religious doctrine. What's the point of marriage? I could potentially love someone outside of wedlock. After previous relationships I don't even believe in love. I certainly don't want a traditional housewife, even if she did the laundry, dishes, and cleaning.

Would like to find a girl that likes to screw in the outdoors as much as me.

Marriage is about commitment. Most people just don't have value for that anymore. Things (jobs, homes, relationships) aren't for keeps like they used to be.

some have the belief that marriage will make them happy. In reality, marriage is nothing more than a piece of paper. Finding someone who will put up with your crap is the most important thing.

More importantly, whose positive aspects outweigh the craziness you have to put up with (from guy's perspective).

Young people shouldn't be getting married in the first place. People change as they get older and is a huge reason why people get divorced.

Just because I make my commitment, doesn't mean I can count on the other party to keep theirs.

This.

Marriage is an antiquated idea

(and yes I'm married)

Also this.

And finally this.

You should plan before considering marriage. A lifetime commitment means more than worrying about half my stuff

Then you've picked the wrong person. Start over

I'm worried about you. You seem to have blind faith in regards to American women.

PJ, can you give me one legitimate reason why marriage should exist as a legal institution?

Too many women LOVE attention too much & it's much easier to get it nowadays in the work place, social media, bars, etc. They would rather not commit to one person & always have something new & they love a life of bs. Being in a real relationship with real responsibilities becomes stale & boring.
