'13 AL RB Johnathan Ford (no longer a Vandy commit)

Any word yet on impact of today's visit? Or do I have to donate blood to VQ for that kind of "insider" info?

10 bucks says James Franklin has been texting ford all night " don't leave me baby! Clay will never forgive me" urban nukeese style

Just talked to Ford
He said the visit was great and that he really liked getting to know the coaching staff and said they all felt like father figures. He's visiting Vanderbilt next weekend and then Mississippi State after that and will have a final decision. He said it will be a family decision.

Is "Father figures" a good thing? Do you think Franklin is like a father figure? I was wondering how his visit went.

Personally I think Ford really likes Vanderbilt and Franklin. I think the fact that Vanderbilt offered early while Dooley was planning his summer vacation means a lot to him. Ford is a bright kid and Franklin has really sold him on a degree from Vanderbilt. It may not be over but I think Vanderbilt still leads. This is just my opinion based on interviews I've seen and articles I've read. I'm hoping we can somehow close on this kid though.

Ford will not need his degree, the NFL is in his future. This kid's tape is impressive. I'm a Vandy grad, but a UT fan at heart; so I really hope to see this kid in orange and white. If not, then I will enjoy watching him rack up the yards in the black and gold.

Even if JF made the NFL the average career for an NFL running back is less then 3 years.

I have trouble believing a "Vandy grad" would say anything remotely close to this.

Even if he had a stellar college & NFL career, he'll still retire from playing football LONG before he'll stop working.

Everyone needs a degree nowadays...

"I had a great time and everything. It actually surprised me because it was great. It was awesome," Ford said. "It was a good opportunity to meet the players and meet the commitments. It was great."

The best part of the official visit weekend, according to Ford, was spending time with Tennessee running backs coach Jay Graham and the rest of Tennessee's new coaching staff.

"We watched some film and it was a great experience. It was really good. The best part of the weekend was just talking to the whole coaching staff and talking to the guys," Ford offered. "They were just talking to me about what it's like (at Tennessee) and stuff."

Ford will next visit Vanderbilt and will follow that up with a visit to Mississippi State the next weekend. He'll be keying in on certain things over the next few weeks as he prepares to make his decision after his final two official visits.

"The coaching staff, the strength, what's going to help better me for life, what's going to help better me for the NFL and how do I get along with the guys on the team already and how can I be apart and how can I make an impact early," Ford said. "That's what I want to do, make an impact early on the team. Early playing time is what I want."

Also mentioned that Dave Lawson talked to him.
