'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

I'm cautiously optimistic here. Has a Tim Jernigan feel to it, but I do think we have a much better shot here then with Mr. Jernigan.

I think things go well with Garner and he ends up sticking with AU. There are always these "big fish" stories leading up to NSD. They don't pan out very often.

Maybe. But there is interest, so its not just a story at this point.

Also, for us to get back to the top, these Big Fish stories will have to start panning out. That's why we watch.

When the product on the field improves, these big fish stories have a chance of working out. Note Ole Miss this year. Look at Vandy. Losing seasons and maybe the poorest defense in UT history will not lead to 5 star players jumping on board. I don't care who the coach is.

I agree 100%.

Why was Dooley's class so bad this year? He had all his eggs in the 'winning this season' bucket. 1st two years he could sell a vision. Not this year, and recruits saw it.

Butch can now to an extent, but I feel we need a better than expected record next year to start turning the corner. Hope Butch is the man for the job. He's making all the right moves, in my opinion, right now. Just needs to translate it to the field, something Dooley was unable to do.

A successful year next year is winning all the games we are supposed to and pulling out one or two SEC upsets. Doing this would mean about 7 or 8 wins a bowl birth and proof that we could pull out wins in the SEC.

From AU Rivals - Peyton Barber comments on unoffical vist

"(Auburn) is up there with the choices I have to pick from. I'm going to see what I can do with my officials and rearrange them. I have to arrange a visit to Auburn, I just have to be sure when. I may try and do it with Carl, I'd like to."

Barber plans official visits to UCLA (1/11), Tennessee (1/18), Ole Miss (1/24) and Miami (2/2). Barber would like to fit in one more official visit in January.

I'd like to see 8 regular season wins. That is firmly in the right direction.

I thought he didnt like Garner? Or was that messageboard BS?

People said he had issues with Garner because Garner did not persue him while at UGA. I doubt that is a big deal now that he knows his offer stands at AU with or without Garner. I would think a coach could smooth that over pretty easily. "I did not recruit you hard as we were told you were 100% tiger". JMO

Absolutely..i see 3-1 in out of conf. Plus we should beat AU, UK, Mizzou. Plus we have GA, S.Car, Vandy at home. Need to beat Vandy then 1 of GA and SC, with SC being the easier of the 2. So 8 is very possible and would be a solid first year and that would be 5 SEC wins, which would be huge. I believe we have talent, we just need coach's who can coach and get the most they can out of the players.

My thoughts exactly. How many close losses did we have this year with a staff that obviously couldnt coach.

We need to raise the bar as a program and as fans.

I'm with you on this. A relatively decent staff could have pulled off a couple of the close losses we suffered this past season. Take away the clock management/timeout issues/wrong #of players on the field issues alone and we win a couple of those.

AU defensive line coach Rodney Garner visited with Carl Lawson father on Saturday night. Lawson was still traveling back from Orlando.

"I think he was honest. We talked slightly about the past -- even more about looking towards the future. I think it was a great first step." Lawson Sr. is also impressed with the staff Auburn has compiled. He feels the strength of the entire staff and their experience is a benefit and a plus for the Tigers.

As Lawson works through the recruiting process, Lawson Sr. confirms the Auburn commit will take visits. Where those visits will be to are yet to be determined. Ole Miss, Tennessee, North Carolina and Clemson all appear to be possibilities.

But Lawson Sr. said his son prefers a low-key atmosphere, a small-town atmosphere. Lawson Sr. admits that his son saw those characteristics in Auburn, contributing to his original commitment.

"He's quiet, he likes quiet," Lawson Sr. said. "He saw that in Auburn. He likes the campus, the fans -- but he's never de-committed from Auburn so people understand that. We'll move forward and decide if Auburn is the best fit. Auburn was his number one choice before and Auburn is still under high consideration."
