'13 JUCO DB Riyahd Jones (UT commit 12/21/12)

Contradicting post. I haven't really heard about Croom if talking to me. I like him at either personally, but I might prefer him at TE. He could be a monster TE.

It wasnt directed at you. It has been widely discussed that he is moving back to WR. I don't understand why. Just curious what others think is the reason?

Hubbs or somebody said that he would get WR reps.

I think it all started from a tweet from croom. From what I have read this staff wants a fast big recieving type TE with less emphasis on run blocking. That's exactly what I see croom as being. Seems like the perfect TE to me

where did Butch Jones say he wanted some mini fast TEs with less emphasis on blocking? Adrien Robinson was his TE at Cincinnati (now in the NFL) and he was 6'5 265 lbs. this past year Travis Kelce was his TE and leader in receptions. he 6'6 260. these are legit do it all NFL TEs

you guys play too much EA NCAA football.

there's a reason Chauntez jackson scholly is still on the table. he is a big guy who can catch move and block. forget all this labeling "blocking" or "receiving" tight end. we need a guy who can do it all.

You should have had more than enough of having to put Alex Bullard in the game at the TE when we needed to be able to run the ball. any coach worth half his salary knows that guy is not going to be involved in the passing game and makes it easier to defend.

If he said he wants a TE who cant block, than expect us to struggle a whole lot in the red zone

What's crooms size?

U think Croom is over 250?

After a year of training for the position he certainly has the frame to do that. Jones wants a catching TE over a run blocking one from what I have seen. I never said anything about the size.

here's #88 Adrien Robinson and #18 Travis Kelce dominating in the run game for Cincinnati

Does jones prefer a road grading TE or a pass catching one first??

He wants one that can do both, but Jones tight ends play all over the field. Versatility should be huge.

He may not have the luxury of having the perfect one tht can do both. Croom would be able to play all over the field

You can teach somebody how to block. Blocking is all about footwork, and having a quick punch. Wasn't Croom a good blocker in high school. Maybe when I can, I'll write something about zone vs. Man blocking.

Once I get done playing this video game I will see if Its normal for a college athlete to add weight during their time in a good strength and conditioning program. If so its reasonable to believe croom might develop into a good blocker as well.

You don't need a lot of strength if you have great hand speed. Who ever has a more powerful initial punch.

One thing that stood out to me on Jones's highlight tape was his recovery speed. He needs some technique work on some of the little things, but I have faith that he will turn into a pretty good CB. As for Croom.... When I heard he had been moved to TE, I immediately thought of Jared Cook when he played for USCe. I could definitely see CBJ using Croom as that type of role player.

He's struggling to stay healthy. He needs to cave in and get it surgically repaired IMO. Something is definitely wrong if he can't get it healed properly by now.

Both of the JUCO TEs we have offered (Vandenburg/Quinn) are both 6'6 and 260lbs. Not sure how that is being on the smallish side.

Jay is talking out of both sides of his mouth. He loves Jackson at TE because of his size when he is listed at 6'4 235 and insults posters for saying croom is big enough to play TE when he is listed at 6'5 232. Just a tad hypocritical!

I will say this I can see where both sides are coming from, but the body types are different. Croom is a WR to me personally. He's just a big WR. Think about Megatron and his size. He's as big as some TEs but I highly doubt he would be a good run blocking TE. Which would allow smart DCs to call plays according to personnel groupings. Which wouldn't bode well for an offense if the defense is any good.

Regarding Bonner, CBJ said no one has asked for a transfer, and if Bonner was not with the team, I'd think he'd be trying to go somewhere where he can play. I'm hopeful he stays.

According to the FF bonner has said he will back with the team. Fwiw
