'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

You just made the entire argument with your posts. There are a lot of IFs and enough to think this is ridiculous.

Only one freshman has ever won this award and that was Johnny football. He had the perfect storm. An offense than put up stupid numbers and a year where the competition was lacking.

So you are telling me that its ridiculous to think, a kid who isnt considered all world just highly rated can do it? Of all the great RBs to have played this game and none won it as a freshamn to think Green can, is ridiculous.

Sorry but to think he could win an heisman in his first year, any freshman for that matter, is really grasping at straws. The numbers just dont go along with that.

Dont think the heisman talk was realistic. Just stating that with TN oline things could be that good for a running back of Green's caliber. And to say competition was lacking??? Ummm not following. The kid put up crazy numbers against teams that are title winners?!

Also, I never said WIN, I said be a finalist. Very far fetched, but I think it's very possible

Ok ... I'll come to the defense of Goat.

Why is this SO hard to believe? He's a 5 star running back with the best offensive line (arguably) in the country. And the invisible freshman 'barrier' was broken this year by Manziel. In the right system with lots of playing time, could this kid rack up 1,500 - 1,700 yard and 15 touchdowns? Sure he could. That's a lot of 'Ifs'. He's certainly got the talent to make it happen, though.

You may not agree with it but it's NOT a ridiculous idea.

This is probably discussed elsewhere in this thread, but I found the discussion today on VQ between Hubbs, Fortenberry and a poster about Mike Farrell's recent comments on Derrick Green a little sobering. Sounds like Farrell thinks Michigan is in the driver's seat? Hubbs/Fort both said they wouldn't use that strong of language, but acknowledged Farrell has talked with him more recently.

Anyway - TIFWIW. Still a long way to go here. Nonetheless, sobering.

He talked to Green before CBJ's in home visit. Things change all the time in recruiting and Farrell has a history of missing on some prospects. I heard the interview from Green and honestly Farrell lead him with the question. Not saying Michigan didn't/doesn't have a slight edge but he's blowing it way, way out of proportion.

The dude seems as if he really likes what Michigan is selling him. Was on 247 today and they have the players twitter feed on the side of the page and it's all Michigan stuff, not a single UT thing. I won't let a players social media life effect what I believe on a player but with him retweeting Michigan fans and stuff it worries me a little.

Man, you're a big ray of sunshine.

Do you mean 'any freshman' like ... maybe ... Johnny Manziel? My only point is it's possible. This time last year, nobody thought Manziel could win it either.

You need to lighten up dude...

really though, Michigan? Why?

Michigan is better than us. Sure, with the right coaches and solid players we can return to SEC Dominance, but all these kids see since they've been in high school is 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, and 5-7. We are a losing program right now, and we need to step it up to get top players attention.

I feel good about Green, there's 4 reasons that give us an advantage.

1. He has said from the begining he is looking at a school that offers early playing time. He will split carries with neal and be the back up his freshman year. And start and split carries with lane his sophmore year.

2. Mama, wants her baby as close as possible.

3. The sec is the best conferance and will be for atleast the next 5 years. Any decent RB in the sec gets drafted for sure. Proofs in the (poole)

4. Mich is cold as crap in the winter.

So to recap we have the sec factor and mama on our side. I like our chances.

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech offensive lineman David Dawson did indeed re-commit to Michigan despite having his offer pulled because of a visit to Florida. Two thoughts here: First, Dawson's commitment will be big with Richmond (Va.) Hermitage running back Derrick Green because the two have become good friends and text daily. Secondly, can coaches just stop posturing about pulling scholarships if committed players take visits elsewhere? It is just making them look silly.

How long in between then pulling his offer and him recommitting??

Yeah I would think that whole scholarship revoking thing would leave a bad taste in Green's mouth.
