The Runner's thread

6 miles, 7:45 pace. Kind of skewed because I was lolly gagging around for the first five and gave it everything I had on the last mile. It was a sub seven last mile up a hill for at least 1/2 of it.

This is the first time I've signed up for a race months in advance. Im amazed at how motivating a $50 registration fee is.

Ran at Lakeshore today. Went almost two loops on it. My phone said I went 3.8 miles, but the trail markers would have me believe it was 4. If it was only 3.8, it was at a 9:49 pace. If it was 4, it was at a 9:20 pace.

After looking up similar problems, seems using a phone GPS isn't that accurate as it just triangulates your position based on nearby cell towers. That's good to know.

I think you either have the genetics to run or you don't. I lost about 30 pounds running and dieting. Went from 200 to 170. was about 37 at the time. Although in very good shape I could never get much over the four mile mark, or develop a pace much better than 10 minute mile.
My ambition was to run a half marathon. However, my left knee begin to develop pain after only one mile of running. In addition I had terrible ankle pain and went through bouts of faceitis (sp?). I tried different stretching, footwear and eventually sought out a physician who advised me to quit running. I now mix it up between eliptical and stair stepper. I miss the running, and it definately sheds more pounds, but if I even attempt a mile, my left knee feels like it's about to explode. I don't experience this pain even after 30 minutes on elliptical. I just hate being inside.
It seems to be horrible on your joints, so don't know if it's worth the gains.

glad this thread got revived. I need some motivation to help get me through the next four months since it's cold and I'm training for both Airborne School in February and my first full marathon in March.

Ran 4 miles today at over an 8 minute pace. I've only got to run once in the previous two weeks and I definitely felt it. Going to start going full bore again starting today. Keep me motivated fellow runners by posting your runs, times and goals please!

Have not gotten to run in the last two weeks due to moving into a new house and everything that comes along with that plus getting ready for the Holidays. I really miss running and I am hoping to get back at this weekend or Monday.

I'd suggest seeing a chiropractor or orthopedic doctor. Sounds like either your pelvis is tweaked therefore putting pressure on your knee or you have ligament issues in the knee that require physical therapy and/or surgery.

Also might need to adjust your stride to minimize the impact on your joints.

Just discovered the VN running thread. Running is probably the one thing I've obsessed about more in my life than UT football. I look forward to some interactions.
for starters, a little over 5 miles today at ~7:00 min pace.
