TJ is rated #1 JUCO player, one the best DTs (2012) and is the best DT in JUCO. He's an EE and has 3 to play 2. Given our issues and current recruiting class he's worth the investment. IMO

If his injury on lattimore's level, I am very concerned, for his sake, about him getting top rehabilitation options, since he is in juco, and not a major university. South Carolina will do everything humanly possible to get him in playing condition. Who is looking out for Toby?

That is one thing that I wondered about is who is going to take care of this young man being that he is in JUCO. If he was at UT I would feel a little better for him.

Enjoyed his visit to Nebraska, thought the game atmosphere was crazy. As for tennessee, he said the firing of dooley does not completely eliminate us, because he feels comfortable here, one of his best friends goes here, and Bradley is committed here. Was planning on visiting for kentucky, but decided to put that on hold.

Hutchinson (KS) Community College DT Toby Johnson was initially scheduled to visit Miami this weekend.

But he's in the process of rescheduling that. He remains on crutches after undergoing surgery for a partially torn MCL and torn ACL.

Anyone know if a recruit can be put through a thorough physical before allowing to commit? The talent is apparently there, but having this sort of injury as a DL and not having top doctors/trainers that are available at major universities, scares me. Still think he's worth the risk.

Idk about a physical but he will definitely be looked at before a prospect is allowed to commit

I hate to hear about his injury and I hate to hear that we lost interest in him. I know whe need to load up with good players but I just some hoe believe that this one would bite us either way whether he came here or some where else.

I agree Lynx. Too much risk for the return. Apparently, the injury was nasty. I wish Toby the best and hope he plays well. Correction, plays well against everybody accept against us. LOL.

I know the injury makes him risky but he may be worth it. If I understand it correctly, he has three years to play two. I think we could afford to redshirt him this year provided that Sentimore, McCullers, and Couch all come back. That said, those three plus Daniel Hood and Corey Miller are seniors this coming year and I haven't been overwhelmed with our defensive line recruiting the past several years. Which players are waiting in the wings to fill these positions other than Danny O'Brien, Taylor, Williams, Saulsberry, and Ben Bradley (if he signs)? That just isn't a lot of depth and I am not sure the quality of the depth at this time.

Typically you take Jucos for immediate help. I hate that he had the injury but UT doesnt really have the luxury of taking a chance on him coming back 100%. This type of injury will take him more than a year to recover from and be as productive as he could be. Really a bad situation for him but he will get a shot, somewhere like UGA where they can let him be a role player after he heals and get his shot.

I wonder if this will change our recruitment of Toby. Correct me if I'm wrong, but post injury had we backed off him? Maybe come Feb, if there is still room in this class the staff will continue to push for him if the numbers work. Seems maybe they didn't want to take the risk now, but later on if the option is still there it would make more sense to try and bring him aboard?

It's definitely looking that way, but with our facilities for rehab etc and the fact that jmoore in another thread mentioned DL Coach Striplings success at getting guys to the league, I hope we are still in it.

I agree it's still a possibility. I hate that the guy got injured. It's a real shame.

One of his big appeals to Georgia was because he was an EE to allow them to sign 48 players this year. Now ... ?
