This has already been tried before and has never worked.

Sam Graddy from UT won a bronze model in the olympic 100 m, was drafted by the raiders, and never developed the hands to play in the NFL.

Another gold medal hurdler, Nehemiah, had the same fate in the NFL.

I'm surprised NFL teams keep trying this. At least Graddy, actually was on the UT football team in college.

If they really want speed, why not give Leonard Scott a shot? At least he has played some college football.

Didn't the Dallas Cowboys invite Ben Johnson to training camp at some point?

Bob Hayes was pretty good for the Cowboys.

Leonard Scott can't catch a cold.

In the past 20 years, Willie Gault is probably the closest thing to a world class track star that was moderately successful in the NFL.

I would also add Anthony Miller.

he is definetly in a 3.4- 3.8 area in the 40

That's completely possible. . . .

if he was shot from a circus clown cannon.

Precisely, but even under the more stringent timing methodology employed at the NFL combine and private workouts for NFL teams, you never see 40 times under 4.2. Anyone thinking that Gatlin can break a 4.0 is in fantasy land.

The fastest 40 time I have ever seen reported was a 4.18 for Rahib Ismail, and I believe it was clocked at Notre Dame, not the combine, where the "thumb" could be a little quick. Considering the number of fairly swift guys who have been in the NFL who have never even approached 4.1, I seriously doubt that 4.0 is in danger of being broken any time soon, even by someone like Gatlin. As another poster pointed out, the last 60 meters Gatlin ran in that record time would have been considerably faster than the first 40 due to a running start.

Gatlin's 40 time wouldn't matter if he was sent on a 70 yard fly to win the game when he would just blow any CB away...

I see that somebody pulled up a post from over a year ago to remind everyone hear how delusional some of our posters are.

People, geez

anything under a 4.2 is pretty much a theoretical impossibility

take into account the fact you are starting at ZERO mph at the gun

*shakes head* at these "under 4.0" posts in this thread

Gatlin to appeal 8-year track ban - Yahoo! Sports

AS he should.I'm not saying what he did or didn't do is right or wrong but don't drop the hammer on him simply because he can't afford a high priced attorney that keeps juggling court dates, manipulating the court systems to buy time such as Barry Bonds,Pacman, and the lsit goes on and on.

I am hoping Gatlin can show up in the NFL games...

Will he be the first UT NFL player who never played for our football team?

BTW, is not Jon Gruden interested in him?

I believe he's innocent. I also believe that the "banned substance" stuff has gone a little too far. Aside from sticking a needle in your butt, I think you should be able to take "most" supplements that are readily available. What I mean is, anabolic steroids should be a banned substance, but nutritional supplements should be fair game (for the most part).

Agreed, I think if it's legal to sell over the counter, you should be able to use it to better your health.
