Rumor on the Louisville boards is that a $4 million per year contract is being offered to Strong, up from his current 2.3 million contract. Petino (their hoops coach) makes $3 million next year.

Wednesday morning didn't bring any closure to Tennessee's search for a new football coach, but it has shifted the focus squarely on Louisville, Ky., and Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong.

With Strong spending much of the day on Tuesday talking to various people, including an NFL scout with Vol ties about the Tennessee job, those conversations were about numerous aspects of UT's coaching vacancy, we are told. Chief among them are the academic issues that have been discussed the last month or so. Strong has spent Wednesday morning visiting by phone with Tennessee athletics director Dave Hart, as Louisville's athletics director Tom Jurich has been working on a contract extension and raise for his third year head coach.

As of 12:30 p.m., Strong was undecided on whether he was staying at Louisville or accepting a job offer from Tennessee that sources have indicated to us would likely top $3.5 million-plus.

The focus shifted to Strong Wednesday after Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy let it be known that he was going to remain at his alma mater in Stillwater. However, multiple sources indicated to VolQuest.com that UT had already shifted its sole focus to Strong long before it was leaked that Gundy would remain at OSU.

Reports say Tennessee Titans defensive line coach Tracy Rocker is the top candidate to be Auburn's next defensive line coach, he may already have an offer in hand or one could be coming soon.

Going back to his old post...that should say something about the situation with the Titans.

They're essentially doubling his salary. I can't believe Hart doesn't have a backup plan here.

I really hope UT doesn't drop the ball on this. There doesn't seem to be many other options left that would be considered big name hires.

Smart PR move by Louisville IMO. They wouldn't offer Strong $4M per year unless they knew he would reject it. The AD can say they did everything they could to keep him and show the fanbase they are committed to football. I don't see Louisville paying a football coach $4M at this juncture.

I ahve a hard time believing someone who doesn't even know the bball coaches name is Pitino haha....thanks for the info though :hi:

edit: I am sorry they just missed spelled, I withdraw my critique :)
OrangeRev is as solid as they come. He was likely in a hurry to post his findings.

@TonyBasilio, Jim Mora (UCLA) was 1 phone interview & done. T.B. speculates that #Gruden will be approached again if no Strong.

If I was strong I'd tell Dave Hart to lick on my balls. It's obvious he waited for Gundy to give him an answer before he moved on to Strong for good.

Actually thats good. Thats not an outrageous number and UT would/could easily match that and would think Louis would have to offer 5 or 6 for him not to leave for UT. Thats good news

We should not be paying 4.5 million for Strong, and if it gets to the 5-6 million mark we better be offering Gruden

If UofL countered and he didn't immediately accept then that should tell us this is a really difficult decision for him and the longer it goes the better I think it is for UT. Doubling his salary didn't get an automatic "Yes"? Sounds fishy to me....

If Jurich would just consult the Gruden scholars he would know that there is no need to counter the offer, because he's just going to stay at louisville because since is all a smokescreen
