Inferior/submissive, eh? Still trying to sneak in those personal insults? Keep it up.

Boro straight out said he was going to quit being a fan of Tennessee and go over to Texas A&M. There's a difference between no longer supporting(which I take as no longer funding, etc), and no longer loving the team. Also, as much as it sucks to say. We're not on a "journey to irrelevancy". We're already there thanks to Fulmer's final few years, Kiffin and Dooley.

Can't get anything past you, huh?

And why was it wrong for Boro to say that? I still agree with him. Would you pay to go see a movie in theaters, pay for over-priced concessions (popcorn, drinks, candy), and put up with listening to the movie next door blaring through the walls when you could have just stayed home where there is an almost limitless amount of 'concessions', and watched another movie that's just as good and maybe even more entertaining?

Not unless you're an idiot.

The AD is taking advantage of the fans; their main target, you. They realize there are people out there who will unconsciously dump money into their pockets, no matter what kind of product they produce. They simply don't care. That's the sickening part.

Are you really considering Jon Gruden to UT still? Honestly, when Strong is hired, what happens next, Gruden comes in as AD? He passed on us. We all believed for a moment it might happen, but it didn't. It's CFB and it's great to see the Vols pick up a STRONG coach.

No, when Strong is hired, we stay at the bottom of the SEC.

I'm still hung up on Jon's abrupt truncation of any conversation regarding the rumors....he was very un-Jon like...

I think that one event told the story...He's ours.

I'm getting a little miffed at the Strong zealots stooping to questioning school loyalty, Vol loyalty, and even (about 500 pages back) racism (gasp).

I think blind loyalty at this point should be questioned. Neyland stadium has always been a great destination, even in down years, but this SHOULD BE the low water mark. To be more precise, that ASS WHIPPING in Nashville should be the low water mark.

What could potentially happen is that we go with yet another coach who is unproven in the big arena. Louisville IS NOT the big arena. As far as the racism thing is concerned, to me, it's not a problem, only in the aspect that the race card has been played already by Charlie Strong. I'm not trying to judge one way or another - but lets just say hypothetically that the coach that got the job (Urban Meyer?) just might have been a better candidate and Strong says it's because he has a white wife. I dunno.. I just don't like it. If he's gone there before, he may again.

OK let's be fair and cut some slack here too. Could it be that was the real reason he was passed over? We will never know, because we weren't involved. We don't have all the facts. One fact we do have however is that in his mind, he feels like he was passed over because he has a white wife, and if that wasn't the reason, it's like Aesops sour grapes story.

America is changing. There are plenty of black sucess stories around if you look. Tony Dungee comes to mind and others. Let me be crystal clear before you flame me, I do not have a problem AT ALL with UT having a black coach. I just don't like a victim attitude that could accompany that.

I'm just saying that this story makes me nervous, and I'm talking race, but not playing the race card, because Strong already played it. Just pointing it out.

Florida Gators' Charlie Strong says race is factor in not getting head coaching job - ESPN
I want to stress my respectful intent at the outset of this post, this is NOT a flame, but I would like to add two salient details:
1) Charlie said that he thought he was being passed over by Auburn in no small part due to race. They hired Gene Chizik (whose résumé was far from sterling, and who clearly turned out to be the wrong hire) above both he and Turner Gill, who at the time was a hot commodity. Note how he hasn't mentioned it since.
He was probably right, and I think it showed a lot of guts for him to say so publicly.
2) It is somewhat ironic that you mention Tony Dungy.
He is on record as having agreed with what Strong said. He said that he too believed Strong was passed over for jobs he would have done very well at (in the SEC) not just because he was black, but because his wife was white.

Regardless of how sensitive people can be about the "race card," it really isn't a stretch for me to believe that race had something to do with the Chizik hire in Auburn, Alabama. Not exactly known as a bastion of tolerance.

Beast.

The same smile he gave to the recruit committed to Ole Miss while saying "I will be the coach at Louisville in 2013". A beast that is a good liar.

I hope Strong is smarter than most of the Strong followers...
cause most of the ones I see in the WRONG thread are f'in retarded...

The day I trust Hart and his 2 Alabama assistants that he brought with him to do the right thing and make the right hire, will be the day hell freezes over. I say pack their Alabama asses up and sent them on their way.

IMO there is no way on earth that Hart will hire a coach here that could upstage Saban at Bama his Alma Mater.

Amen Gman.

They brought Hart in to be the proverbial "hatchet" man. Anyone in corp america knows that these type hires (Hart) are brought in to do a single job which is to trim the fat and cull the herd. He will not be here long and UT will be stuck with another dud as a football coach!!!

Mark my words Hart will return to Bama within 30 months!!!

Direct Quote from Lowe article on ESPN:

"Nothing has been finalized, and Louisville is expected to do what it can to keep Strong, who guided the Cardinals to a Big East Conference championship and an Allstate Sugar Bowl berth this season."

You trolls are right, its a done deal!:huh:

WTH happened in here. I check out for a few hours and come back and the board is in chaos. Did anyone actually get information that JG was a no go?

Thats just the rub. No confirmation n anything whatsoever, just an ESPN segment saying Strong was the lead candidate...people who hate life and wish for others to as well come here and declare done deal...and then war ensues...

Why oh why is everyone that's so anti-Gruden even so confident that Strong is the hire? If you want to hate on Gruden, that's fine - you've been doing that for a month now, but these same "sources" alleging that Strong will be our hire are the same one's who've missed roughly 100% of every other coaching hire that's gone on over the last week, that were much more open to the public than ours has been. Why do you all of a sudden believe them now? When not a one of them has a concrete statement from anyone involved?

And you call the pro-Gruden crowd sheep...

Occam's Razor, my friend.

The UT job was in play until the Raiders called. That screwed it up. We came really close and almost got it done.

No shame in that. UT stepped up, we just weren't Gruden's preference.

Well, dang, Texas A&M don't care about you, either. Why should you pledge loyalty to them, or anyone else for that matter? You'll be a man without a team, and that's a lonely place.

You make a valid point. I should have not said that in regards to switching allegiences. They don't care about me that's true, and since they are 1000 miles away, there is little chance of me supporting them either. They beat Bama this year, which is is something I don't see us doing anytime soon without a BIG hire.....and I don't just mean Gruden.

Strong is small time thinking, which seems to be the mold we are stuck in, and I'm tired of it. I still don't believe it, but if it happens to come to fruition I believe it signals a continuation of mediocrity. Nobody here can seriously say Charlie Strong is the type of coach to go head to head with Nick Saban and have us on equal footing with Bama.

I unreservedly apologize for what I said, it was bush league. I love the Vols, but despise our leadership right now from top to bottom. I'm not alone in this.....many active letterman of various sports agree. It's a mess.

I've backtracked and apologized now, so all of you gloating trolls feel free to flame away. I'm mispoke, and am broad enough between the shoulders to take my lumps.

When this thing breaks the other way on you, be man enough to take what gets dished back out.

This isn't over yet.
