Jon Gruden, ESPN analyst, white whale – We continue to receive detailed “tips” on how Tennessee has masterfully fooled the Knoxville media into believing that Gruden-to-UT is dead, when really, it’s still a done deal behind the scenes. Vol athletic director Dave Hart is apparently just a showman at heart. We’ll believe it when we see it as every industry source and UT source we’ve spoken to says this one is dead.

:eek:lol:

Just heard an interesting stat by will west. Ok state has had 5 double digit winning season. 4 of those 5 mike gundy was involved with the team. 2 as a coach and the other 2 as the starting qb

Strong and Chaney wouldn't fit..Strong knows that your D needs rest so running the ball is important in his scheme.

I can buy into the "fit" argument more so than get rid of Chaney because he is a bad OC...same fools who thougth Chavis and Wilcox were horrible DCs.

At least keep Graham and Pittman...more important than Chaney.

I'm in absolute agreement that it's completely laughable at this point...but can you imagine what would happen if it came to fruition?

Knoxville wouldn't want a press conference, they'd hold a ticker-tape parade.

....but it's not happening people.

I'm not Chaney's biggest fan because his playcalling is predictable and he's too pass happy.

Chavis is a good DC, but he has a major weakness.

Wilcox is a solid DC who is getting better.

Could Dave Hart pull an ace from up his sleeve at the last minute and deliver a surprise hire for the Vols?

You have to wonder, since his process has been so quiet and devoid of any solid information.

Could it be a Butch Davis? Or Greg Roman? Or someone else along those lines?

Or is still just a three man race between Gundy, Fedora, and Strong?

Explain how Chaney is bad other than the FLA game this year?

If you don't like the offensive style, I get it...but not as a general bad OC.

Previous two seasons with a young offense in the SEC...not a recipe for success.

Watched the Bama game? I refuse to think UGA or LSU has better WRs than ours. Yet they took more shots downfield than us.

Miss. State- 3rd and short multiple times he throws the ball instead of running it when we were getting 6-7 yards a pop of them.

3rd and short situations all year he's been terrible with a veteran talented O-line.

UGA game late drive he had enough time to keep running the ball.

Vandy he went pass happy when we were gutting them up the middle with the run game.

Last year versus Kentucky this fool runs wildcat knowing we were having center issues.

Chaney looks good on paper but I hate his in-game coaching personally.

As you said, I don't really like his offensive style. Chaney wants to run a 1 back offense that passes the majority of the time. I think we saw that in the UK game after Dooley was let go. The only reason we went I formation and ran the ball was Dooley. I want an offense that will run the ball, whether that be from the spread like Chip Kelly or from the power I like Jim Harbaugh.

He did get a little better after the UF game, but in general Chaney is a very predictable playcaller. Often based on the formation I could tell you what play we were running before we ran it. The reverses/sweeps drive me crazy. In the SEC you have to run the ball straight ahead. Defenses in general are too fast for that. Late in the season on 3rd and short we would take shots deep. Our running game was great this year when we were in the I running up the middle but often Chaney would throw in critical situations.

Chaney seems like a great person and the players love him. I'm just not the biggest fan of his playcalling. I hope he does well where ever he coaches next year, I'd just prefer UT to make a change. JMO.

I'm not going to give a long detailed answer, but the guy went away from the run-game way too often this year, when unlike last year, it was working this year. Neal and Lane did very well this season. Also, how many times were we in the redzone or in short yardage situations where Chaney decided to run 2-3 straight pass plays ending up in a punt, FG, or nothing? The three straight pass plays inside the 10 yard line literally killed me. How does any OC do that? This isn't the NFL.

Florida also played FSU and Vandy(yeah I know). The gameplay is much different. They have 3-4 good CBs. Bama has only 1. The safeties are somewhat close but Florida gets the edge with Elam being a real tone setter for the back-end. No I'm not hating but Bama has been attacked only 3 times all year(LSU, A&M, and UGa) and the rest of the secondary outside of #28 didn't respond well. UT not attacking Bama like we did Florida was crazy.

FSU has an edge over Michigan. Vandy and Miss St are a pretty much a wash. I agree UF has more depth there. They did have 10 starters back. UF didnt get challenged downfield too often either. I will give UF the edge in the secondary and Bama is better against the run. Thats fair.

Preach it.. The ridiculous amount of talent on offense overshadowed Chaney and made him look good.

I I really haven't been impressed by Bama's run defense. LSU and Georgia lined straight up and punished Bama for stretches in the game. This Bama defense was benefited by a soft schedule. I don't think they can take a game over like an elite defense. Florida is the type of unit that can win a game by themselves. I don't see that with Bama at all this year.

I would like see a statistical breakdown of play calling balance by quarter because my issue with Chaney is that later in games, especially if we got behind, even a little, we gave up on the run.

Maybe that comes down to not liking his style, but I just don't think we needed to be a 2:1 pass:run team this year. Vandy and Alabama might be exceptions because we were getting our doors blown off, but this team could run the ball and I just felt like we gave up on it at times and it hurt our offense when teams were able to play 2 deep safeties.

(The inability to throw against 2 deep safeties also bothered me a lot. See Vandy game.)

Local Arkansas radio is reporting they've hired Mike Gundy. FYI, this is now the 48th reported Razorback coach.

HC Charlie Strong
OC - _________?

HC Mike Gundy
DC __________?

i would say he likely keeps current OC Shawn Watson - Scot Loeffler worked with him at UF and just got fired at auburn - didnt have a great year at auburn so not sure he'd go that route, but did work with him before so i guess he could be an option

i'd say Gundy would bring Bill Young with him but i'd like to see him go after ellis johnson

Chaney didnt inherit a great system or great players - i think we should give him some credit for development or putting these players in a scheme that showcased their talents - most of our issues this year were not on his side of the ball
