Here are the pros and cons of each.

Mike Gundy
Pros
-Has the longest history of success as a head coach.
-Has taken a second/third tier program in a major conference to the top of that conference and sustained 5-6’s of good records
-Offensive genius
-Players coach
-4-2 Bowl record (fiesta bowl win last year)\
-Develops offensive players amazingly (QBs and WRs)
Cons
-Hasn’t recruited well (rankings wise, he obviously scouts well and develops players)
-No history in the Southeast
-Had pretty bad defenses some years

Charlie Strong
Pros
-Defensive minded coach, with a track record of good statistical D’s.
-Recruits the Southeast very well (I know his class isn’t great right now, but he has done very well for Louisville standards)
-Two Coordinating stops at major SEC programs (UF, USCe)
-Taken Louisville out of the dumps into BCS bowl in three years, albeit it in the easiest BCS conference
-Players coach
Cons
-Small head coaching history
-Never been a HC at a big time conference program
-questions about in game coaching decisions

Larry Fedora
Pros
-Great offensive mind
-Coordinated O at UF
-Recruited South East at UF, So Miss and UNC
-Took USM to 12 win season beating Sumlin lead Cougars in CUSA Champ game (team went 0-12 next year without him)
-Good first year at UNC with no bowl game to play for
Cons
-Very limited history as HC at a BCS level program
-Defense was terrible this year

Help me add to this.

ericvol i think that is pretty fair - i would add in game coaching ability to Strong's cons - some of the mistakes he has made at Lville could have been that it is his first stop - but he has struggled in several situations - not saying he can't succeed even with that, but i would list it on the con side

To the guys bycthing I have 2 points. First off Arky and Auburn are the other top programs trying to make hires and they are waiting for our scraps. Secondly, if Saban and Richt left today who would replace them. It would be a list of the same names your hearing now.

You are not hearing enough names IMO. There are a lot of good coaches out there. What are we afraid of? All you have to do is call and offer.

We need to hire a coach asap, if for no other reason it will clear out some of these trolls overflowing into this forum and send them back to the Football forum where they belong.

Yep Saban can not coach and that is why UA has him because no one else would take him. Maybe our AD will realize this sometime and get UA a real coach and UA back to the promise land.

Does make you wonder though that UA lost to ULM, but we did beat UT that year.:hi:

WTF are you getting at with this post period? Boy Bama fans are sensitive as hell. They also don't read well either.........

And do we know Hart didn't "kick the tires" of some big name coaches? If he checks with some big name coaches, but they aren't interested, what do you do?

Strong is a really good coach. I love the no nonsense approach he takes. Defense will be his strong suit which is a must in the SEC and he can recruit. A lot of ties in FL and the rest of the south. Plus he seems to be a college football guy, meaning he loves the game and will stick around.

Like another poster stated many programs are after him.

I see UT in the same position UA was in 2007. Shula left the program in sort of a mess, but had some talent on the roster, Saban came in and was able to turn the program around. I think UT may be in a better situation. The biggest issue Saban had to deal with was discipline where I think Dooley has done a good job of that. Just my 2 cents.:hi:

Since we do want to beat Bama and Saban we're headed in the right direction with Strong. We'll just do like Texas A&M. Get a black coach, give him some sunglasses, then let him come to T-town his first year and hand Saban his azz with a less talented team. Yeah we just need to see if Strong likes Oakleys or Ray-Bans for shades. :)

Since he is 52, should go Ray-Bans...
:hi:

Total Defense #36
Scoring Defense #32
Rush Defense #13
Pass Defense #28

Those are interesting numbers. Would not have thought that. Thanks for posting.

No matter who is hired (if it is down to those bottom 3) they all need to make good hires and bring in recruiting classes to match. I think all 3 have proven they can coach, all in different ways.

:lolabove:

Yeah, that is how a coaching search works. You just pull up a list of winning percentage among active coaches and start making phone calls :eek:lol:

So just tell me how you would do it? Hire the coaches that have lost the most. Do you think there is some type of test you have to take before a coach is offered a job? If you have the money, you offer it and they either say yes or no.

Why dont you head on back to the speculation forum and take the other trolls with you.

You can call me a troll all you like. I was born and raised in TN, I have been a fan all my life. This is a forum, where you go to voice your opinions. If you don't like mine, then click ignore.
