Recruiting Forum: Football Talk II

A gem from the coaching forum...

Dooley has out recruited Strong the past 3 years at their perspective schools. Just because Strong has a chance he may be hired here is not going to change his recruiting. At Louisville if Strong is as good as some like to think, he should have the best recruiting classes in his conference, and he don't.

The SEC is big boy league, he can barely speak in public, the SEC big boys will eat him alive on the recruiting trail IMO.

Sorry B, just how I feel.....Strong is a better coach than Dooley but thats not saying a lot.

Yea I responded. I think Dooley may have been the worst coach in the SEC in building and maintains recruiting relationships these last 3 years.

It's done more harm than good.

For me, it crosses the line when you start talking in absolutes... "done deal, signed, sit back and wait, next head coach." This crap gets your neck laid nicely on the chopping block and deservedly at that.

It's not hard to temper the expectations by letting things play out a little bit. Some people never learn though.

I agree with you both. There is no doubt in my mind that there were serious talks between Gruden/Lamonte and UT/UT boosters. However, it was never a "done deal," and our "insiders" should have treated it as such. They were all just so eager to be the first to get the scoop to fuel their internet avatar ego I suppose. Ended up toying with a lot of people, including myself.

Hoping Gruden would come is something we all did. Acting like he is the only person who can win at a program that historically has been a winner is absurd. Some of those guys can't move on.

He's notorious for starting rumors, wrong predictions, being wrong in general. He's basically a laughing stock among knowledgeable people. How the hell is he a mod? Does he have something on Freak?

I haven't been around very long, but I assumed he was a fairly well-respected poster based upon how other posters revere him. Who knows.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Charlie Strong says he will answer questions about his future at Louisville when the time is right.

Big East blog

Big East ESPN.com's Andrea Adelson writes about all things Big East in the conference blog.

His comment Monday did more to fuel questions about whether he is leaving the Cardinals than it did to put them to rest.
Strong's name has surfaced for job openings at Tennessee and Auburn. When he was asked if he could definitively say he will be at Louisville next year, the third-year coach said, "I will say that at the right time."
Strong says he has not spoken with other schools and added that he has a great job at Louisville. He also says he is in a "no-win situation" regarding the reports about his future.
Louisville (10-2) will play Florida in the Jan. 2 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
-ESPN

This is only fuel to the fire that Strong is going to leave. He is open and not denying that he is looking and interviewing.

It's true that Strong would benefit from attending a public speaking course, but so would Muschamp, and he seems to be doing rather well at Florida. And Dooley was a good communicator. So maybe good comunication is a bad thing? :loco:

Wow... I've spent a lot of time in the coaching rumors forum the last two months. I understand wanting Gruden, heck I would have loved to have him and thought for a long time that we had a real shot. But those people over there now are acting like Charlie Strong is some joke Dooley2.0. The guy worked his way up at victims schools, turned Louisville around quickly, and will kill on the recruiting trail here if given the chance. Those people over there acting like he is a 2nd tear coach are ignorant or stupid or both.

You could start a thread over there right now saying your sources told you that UT had agreed in principal with Jesus Christ and that he would be bringing divine intervention to bear on behalf of the Vols next season as our head coach.

First 6 responses would be:
"Not a big enough name."
"No head coaching experience"
"Can't motivate players."
"Too old."
"Not able to recruit people to his team."
"Do not want."

To jump nearly 17 spots in the rankings in less than 2 months would be tough for anybody. I think he will make a huge push, but probably will fall short.

Not really...look what Meyer did last year with OSU...I expect the same results with Strong...he's an ace

Can't believe someone said Dooley has out-recruited Strong. Head to head Strong beat Dooley for Nick Dawson. And had more US Army All-Americans in the game last season. Besides addressing needs a lot better than Dooley.

People say he'll be killed on the recruiting trail because he can't speak. Laugher, he can communicate very well with his players and with recruits. Like someone else stated Muschamp isn't a great talker but kids don't care about a coach at a press conference. They want a fiery winner. Strong is fiery and demands respect when he walks in a room. He's the type of coach you know has your back.

Guys I want to see under Strong on the current roster include:

Jordan Williams- should breakout

Maggitt- if he's healthy

AJ Johnson- would be encouraged to play like Brandon Spikes as he should be doing

McNeil- probably used like Major Wright

Bonner- would be allowed to play ball for us

Gray- another CB that would be allowed to play ball

Orta- want to see him used at CB or like Ahmad Black at UF

Coleman- moved to safety with his tackling ability and problems he has turning his head around finding the ball.

Randolph- used like Ahmad Black at safety if he's healthy

A mod on Oklahoma State's Rivals site says that "I get the feeling the Tennessee deal is about to go down".

Since I don't have access, this could mean one of MANY things (i.e. UT hiring a coach not named Gundy, UT to hire Gundy, Gundy publicly dismisses UT interest, etc.)

Exactly, especially when you consider many guys we are in on...

Potentially:
Derrick Green
M North
V Bell
Levenberry
Ramsey
Toby Johnson
Jason Hatcher
Crayton

Man, imagine what this finish could look like!

That forum over there...I don't even know what to say. There's no legit football conversation going on I can say that.

And I wonder how many of our current recruits would be asked to look somewhere else? if Strong is hire.

Strong will be a good hire I think and will do some really good things on the recruiting trail, even in 2 short months.

However....I think expecting the same results as a 2 time national championship winning coach at a traditional national power and recruiting juggernaut in two months is a LITTLE much.

Again, I think he will go some really good things in a very short time, but replicating Meyer will be a pretty large task IMO....and by all means I hope I am totally mistaken.

Someone got access. The mod basically said that Tennessee has their guy and the issue will be resolved soon.
