How confident are you a hire will be made this week?

I think Strong will accept if offered, kind of hoped they went ahead and sewed him up over the weekend. Not sure if Mora or Gundy will, doubtful about Fisher but not the same degree. Mora a 1st year coach mentioned in the COY conversationand Fisher seems to have a pretty good thing going at Fl. St.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hart had his guy done by thurs. His plan all along was to have someone hired no later than the 15th, i think he's well ahead of that target date.

Exactly. Hard not to give an honest answer without an offer. Recruits should ask him if he's actively looking for another job. That's the real question.

O&W I usually agree with 90% of your piston. i do respect your opinion, however
Strong did mislead the recruit vs Gundy who basically said no comment.

Please don't bring Bo Pelini to UT. He's terrible and his defenses at Nebraska are terrible too. Don't lie to yourself and think any different.

I agree Mora would do well, but with the exception of the Atlanta Falcons does he have any other ties to the south. He seems to have spent most of his life on the west coast, and seems to prefer it. So than one would have to wonder could the right job lure him back.

Also anyone that follows recruiting understands the value of relationships with HS coaches. He has very few if any in the south which would slow down the recruiting process. And yes in before someone says he would open up Cal and the west to UT, will not happen. Even Kiffin struggled to get WC kids to the south with his allstar recruiting staff. Only one coach that have seen do well recruiting PAC12 country and that was Meyer while at UF.

Again probably a great hire but not sure much over a Strong. UT has two things that need to be address quickly. One defense, which Strong I believe can fill that void, and two recruiting and he seems to have as good of relationship with most coaches in the south as any.

Fulmer recruited Cali better than any coach in the SEC(including Meyer). We pulled numerous stars from there. Also Mora has a good staff that can pull talent in the south.

I believe Mora gets the nod on turnaround time. He beat his #1 rival in his first year and played in, and almost won, his conference title. Mora is 1st for me.

Mora is very interested in this job. He will never make at ucla what he can make at Tennessee if he does well. He wants to be somewhere that football is #1. UCLA is a BB school first.

This was Mora's first year of a five year, $12 million plus contract. That's $2.4 million a year he's making now. Is there a prohibitive buy out?

On the good side, Mora claimed that he turned down NFL offers after Atlanta because he wanted to coach college ball, that UCLA was a once in a lifetime opportunity he couldn't turn down. So, is he open to another opportunity? You seem to think yes.

If you can get a contract that locks him up from leaving he would be my first choice as well.

Putting two and two together, given skeeter's lack of statement saying strong's interview went well or lack of continuity of good things heard on strong. Plus strong's comment to the recruit. I fear he isn't coming. And that makes me very very sad.

Seems like he is best choice available

Strong sent word he was interested the day the job opened.

With Louisville stating that they'll pay more to keep him, why shouldn't Strong interview? That's not to say Strong doesn't appreciate Tennessee. I think he does.

i want strong or fisher or mora do not want gundy he doesn't even have a decent defense and thats what we need more than anything and fedora heck no i would rather have dabo swinney more than those 2!!!!!!

I can roll with Mora, however, this scenario scares me after a season or two:

1. Kiffin fired
2. We laugh, Kiffin cries
3. Sarkisian goes from Washington to USC
4. We get nervy
5. Mora to alma mater Washington
6. We cry, Kiffin laughs, having indirectly screwed us a second time.

Years back, when coaching the falcons, he made a statement about "his dream job" being the huskies. Falcons management and fans were displeased. I believe later that season, he was fired.

If Mora is really in play and can bring in some A+ recruiters with him he would get the edge over Strong for me. He would have to have a steeeeeeep buyout in his contract to keep him from bolting to Washington or back to the NFL.

I'm fine with all the coaches currently being discussed. Pros and cons to each, for sure. But I think they are all high quality guys. That's a far cry from where we were when Dooley was hired. Shows this job is still one of the best in the land.
