Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

I would put Stoops above Strong. Just never looked at him or Gruden as realistic possibilities. Gruden would fall under that could catagory as well. He's never done it at the ncaa level. Ive never been sold on him. It would take me too long to post my reasons why though.
Gruden would have saved us, he would have recruited a top 5 class and would of had us in the sec champ game every year!

This!

A very good Post. TAKE NOTE MONITORS AND PASS ON TO YOUR SUPERIORS!

A post from someone on VQ that I thought was worth sharing...

Quote:
John Brice, please respond to this if you don't mind.

I heard you tonight on The Nation. I enjoy the show. You said something on this show that really stuck with me. You said that "Jon Gruden is not the only coach who can win here." I agree with that 100%.

The problem is that going out and getting Jon Gruden represented much more than that to the Tennessee fan base. It's not about a guy who can get us back to 8 wins a year and occasionally contending. It's about confirming Tennessee as one of the premiere football programs in America. No matter what the financial cost or the risks involved, if this University had gone out of a limb, paid whatever it took, and brought Jon Gruden to head our football team the fans would have made it worth it. The support would have made what Bama is seeing now shrink in comparison. We feel like our football program has been taken from us, and we are all just waiting for an opportunity to buy in 100%. UT had an opportunity to make a statement, that we do not accept mediocrity and that we are so committed to winning that we are willing to do something unprecedented to bring in a guy no one else in the country thought we could hire.

So that's why the fans are upset. It wasn't just about hiring a football coach, it was about declaring ourselves for all to see as a national power who will not be downtrodden. That's exactly what Alabama did with Saban. They could have settled for someone else. They could have moped along and accepted the ups and downs until they found the next great guy. But they instead chose to go all in, wait forever, chase a coach who said NO NO NO NO over and over, and now look at them. We had the same opportunity, and we did not choose to make the same choice. And as someone who graduated from UT and loves this university that really sickens me.

I'll always love UT but the fact that UT chose, at this point in our history, to think small instead of shoot for the moon really makes me question just why I love it so much. I shouldn't care this much more than they do, and if they don't understand the mentality of this fanbase and exactly what the last few years has meant to those of us who bleed orange then what are we doing here?

Thanks.

The second paragraph is spot on.

I see where its easy to think that. I've said before, he would make a huge splash and would be the best hire short term. Judt not sold on him hanging around long enough. Hes never been a hc at the ncaa level. He still has to prove he can do it. He didnt like young players in the nfl. So a whole team full of younger players? Makes you wonder.

3 years ago I would have jumped up and down for almost any of the "others".

This shat ain't funny.

if you can coach the pros than you can coach in college ! and we al know he could have recruited but i can see your point on only knowing the rules hints the other coaches he wanted and the salary he wanted if it comes down to money then hart azz will be fired or there will be someone with hell to pay who ever is running this shlt into the ground. i say poney up and pay this man what he wants . there is no one else out there . i really at this point think Hart will not be able to hire anyone else and throw the money at grude and hire him and it could have been a smoke screen all allone. but who knows

I put it here because it conveyed my feelings better than I did in my response to Jhen.

I'm with Behr on this one. Why is it we care more about the perception and state of our program than the guys who are paid big money to care? The fact they don't "get it" is what makes me think we need to replace their asses. I don't feel you have to be an alum to care about a school, but I do feel a truly good AD understands the mindset of the people he's selling the school to. I just don't feel Hart understands what it is to be so passionate about your team that seeing them fall so far from what they were crushes your damn heart. EVERY other fanbase is laughing at us, and I can't blame them. We've become a joke, and it tears me up to admit that. I want a hire that will ***** smack them all back into place and tell them WE ARE TENNESSEE and we lay down for no one. But it's not going to happen, and we're going to be hoping for better things rather than expecting better things. Even with Strong, who I know some of you love, I won't have confidence he will succeed. I'm not saying he will fail, but I think he's another risky hire. I'm tired of irrelevance and seeing UT made into a joke. I'm pissed that Hart let all this drag out without ever saying a damn thing and leaving us with egg on our face, again. I'm really pissed if the stories of Hart throwing a monkeywrench into the whole thing to get his way is true. If they are, he needs to be tarred and feathered and run out on a rail.

Sorry, I'm having anger management issues and rambling. I want a competent Athletic Department, a competent Athletic Director, and a return to glory for our football team. I don't feel we have the first two, which makes the third a pipedream.

Slice, is Hart trying to strongarm the boosters to let him use the slush fund for another coach? I'm curious. If he is, I can see this as a powerplay, and I'd rather he not win. I don't have faith in him. Maybe it's the bitter memories of Hambone, and I really disliked Dickey, but UT ADs have not inspired me to trust their judgement.

I feel like we're reliving the last coaching search all over again and that once more, we're going to come out looking like chumps.

I completely understand how you feel. Love that post.

I've just never looked at Gruden as a realistic hire. It actually all went further than i thought it would with him. I would love to have him. I dont know who called it off. If Gruden removed his name though, you can't blame UT.

I'm not arguing with you Behr. I understand how important this hire is. I hope to God we get the right guy.

The Boosters are still saying Gru done deal. Nobody is posting that because they don't want to hear the backlash.
I personally find it hard to believe but they say we're getting Gru.

No Grude zone.

I'm sick of his name. I'd love to have him but it's making me feel like Gruden would hire UT not the other way around. Yes he's a good coach but if all the demands stuff is true I just don't know anymore if it will all be worth it.

This smokescreen crap backfired.

Now I dont want him. His agent made him seem like an ass.

I kinda like Gundy.

Skeeter seems to think Strong will get in an offer by Wednesday. Fisher seems to have removed himself.
