Recruiting on par with UGA, UF, and AL is the only way we get this program back. We need the best recruiter we can possibly get. Out of all the possibilities, who do you think fits that bill? For me i think it is James Franklin. What are your thoughts?

Not even close. Franklin is not pulling in top 10 classes. He is pulling in top 15 and 20. Don't let the UT beat down under Dooley fool you.

Fisher or Gundy for HC.

Strong imo, but Franklin is one hell of a recruiter. If we can't do better then hire him. He has been the best coach in Tennessee far too long. If we can't get Strong, Mora, or Fedora then I would be fine with Franklin.

You are about to get flamed btw.

I hate how we have a geographical disadvantage in Tennessee.

Good recruiting + bad coaching = Auburn

Even Dooley. I felt like Dooley recruited well, especially for the fact that he never gave anyone a glimpse of anything that made people think he knew what he was doing during the 60 minutes of actual football.

Dooley really didn't recruit well at all. Have you read the article about his perception to HS coaches in NW Georgia?

I agree, we need a great recruiter to raise our talent level. And considering Franklin is at Vandy, top 10/15 in recruiting is amazing in my book.

Recruiting starts with your staff. Yes, we need a head coach who's a stout recruiter--but he'd better have two/three stud recruiters on staff. That is IMPERATIVE for UT now--getting stud recruiters on the staff.

Yeah, I read the article. I don't think that means that Dooley didn't recruit well though. He obviously blew it in some parts. But he got some good players out of Georgia.

And he got some good players period. Da'Rick, Hunter, Tiny, James Stone, A.J. Johnson, Maggitt, McNeil, Patterson.

Dooley recruited pretty well for a coach who never won. That's my point.

We need a head coach who is an excellent COACH. The staff can be filled with excellent recruiters. We need a guy who can play chess with the premiere coaches in the country. It's easier to build muscle than it is to grow a brain. Hire a brain, let others build the muscle.

Exactly. Strong is a terrible recruiter !!! That's why we don't want him.

We don't want Jimbo either. He's dull. He only recruits well because he is at FSU. Plus he has underachieved for talent he has.

Ever been to Ida &^%$#@ing ho, specifically Boise and Boise State? and yet they routinely recruit and win, "geographical disadvantage" is a cop out to me, like "moral victories" or listening to UGA Dawg fans crow about how well they played when they lost the freakin' game. Loser mentality =loser reality.

We need both but recruiting is waaaaay more important. We need talent equal to GA, FL, & AL before we can ever think about competing for an SEC championship again.

IMO the head coach is the real difference maker in recruiting. In today's culture the top kids want to go play for the head coaches who either are established as a big winner (i.e. Saban & Miles) or up and comer coaches with dynamic personalities and a little swagger. (i.e. Franklin). If we can't get the first type, we gotta get the other type. It wouldn't hurt to get a dynamic personality too in order to pump up the fan base again. We need to be re-energized.

Kiffin brings in tons of talent to USC. They didn't do too well though because he is a recruiter, not a coach. It doesn't matter if we have talent equal to Alabama if Saban can absolutely coach circles around our guy.

Kiffin has done well as a coach. His problem has been his dad who has not adapted to the college game. Kiffin's offense has been darn good.

This is the reason I would love to have Chris Petersen.

I think honestly, he is the best COACH in the country. I mean, nobody has done more with less in the past decade. Now, Saban is the best as far as recruiting great talent AND running a system that is consistent and efficient. And so, he is the best college coach, because that involves a level of recruiting.

But as far as game-planning goes and getting the most of what he has, Peterson is the man.

If you tell me Gruden isn't happening and Saban or Stoops isn't happening, then I say Petersen automatically.

I've wondered what he would do with SEC talent. He's done nothing but awesomeness with the talent that decides to come to freakin Idaho.

He can't possibly believe this. Coach Strong was named to Rivals top 25 recruiters on multiple occasions. He is an excellent recruiter and I know this first hand from speaking to people he recruited while at Florida.

You should see where Louisville's classes were ranked before he got there. He would recruit well at Tennessee if given time. He has ties that Dooley never had. I hope for Coach Strong's sake he gets a chance but as UF fan I do not look forward to facing him every year.

You know how bad TN high school talent is? Times that by 10 and welcome to KY. Trinity is bout the only school with major talent and when guys like Hatcher have offers from USC, UF and UT its hard to convince them to stay home. Hatcher had UofL in his final 3 and committed to USC when they were preseason #1. Quick currently has UofL in his top 3, have to wait and see what happens. UofL is in a horrible part of town IMO to exacerbate the problem. If you're expecting Strong to pull in top 15 classes at UofL you're going to be consistently disappointed, its never going to happen.

Yeah, it's so easy to recruit to Louisville...LOL. He was widely known as one of the better recruiters in the nation at UF. Why do I have to keep explaining this stuff to people. Use your mind....Louisville/Tennessee. Do I need to continue?
