Agree with Ainge 100%. Proven recruiter, proven winner, wants to be here. Never cited for wrongdoing in his tenures at Miami (everything with Shapiro began in 2002, during Coker) or UNC (just cleared this week. legit.).

Ole Miss went through a lot of crap over the years because of the AD running things, then the boosters stepped in last year and it seems they have a good coach. I think if they donate their money to support the AD and the AD continually screws things up, you can't stand by. Its like investing in a company and continually losing money and wanting to keep investing while the same people make the same idiot decisions.

Or Bama. Rich Rod was hired by AD and boosters stepped in and said no. Saban's delivered. Championships return to Elephants. Rich Rod goes to Mich and is embarrassed.

Guess those Money men should have known their place.

What would have been best for the university would have been for them to "know their role" and not try to play AD. Their opinion is valued, as are their $$$$, but they in no way run things.

LOL. You cannot be serious. We are still talking about major college football, right?

Big money rules all. That is how it works. See: Bama and Rich Rod.

Carter are you saying Hargis' from page story was just rumors?

Hargis is the only journalist or media type that has put his reputation on the line in East Tennessee. I have not heard word one from any media personality or journalist put their reputation on line for the information they are reporting (which most if not all is coming from the AD's office). Now Woodbery did confirm that he spoke to LaMonte but LaMonte said no offer had been made.

Haris has stated without reservation that he had two sources one a booster and one a coach who had been contacted by Gruden about coaching with him at UT.
:good!:

If you agree to disagree, then you really can't discuss candidates since, if you're right, Hart might make a decent hire. But if he is right, then Hart won't make a good hire.

In his eyes the only decent hire is Gruden. Again, semantics. I think Strong, Fedora, Franklin or Fisher would be good hires. Many here disagree. That's discussion but the quality of a coaching candidate is a variable depending on who is looking at them and their attitude toward this search and that candidate.

No matter who he hires, it will not be proven a good or bad hire for 2-3 seasons regardless of what we say or feel.

Neither bolded are unlikely scenarios in the way I think it played out. Its not important man, you want me to agree with you and I am not going to. Lets just agree to disagree and talk about legitimate candidates and not all the semantics of the Gruden fiasco.

Gruden is a legitimate candidate. You don't want to see that any longer because you are still hurt from being burned by your "sources".

Brilliant minds think alike... we post same thing at exact same time. Not enough likes for you, good sir!

bcarter is a smoke screen!

I'm kidding, thanks for the info man, I just don't believe it was just rumors turned to fact, maybe distorted and exaggerated, but I believe most of what Hargis said, his sources were very credible and he said he just didn't go off word but had evidence. The Knox media knew nothing, which makes this even more crazy after ESPN comes out and says this stuff happened last week as well. I don't think Gruden is coming, but the stuff that happened makes me feel like there were disagreements on our side.

Exactly. Amazing Mal Moore is still there too.

Does anyone have any info on who Gruden wanted on his staff and who their agent is? I am beginning to wonder if Lamonte was negotiating for more than one person.

Guys - we all want to know how everything went down with Gruden. But let's not rewrite history. There were 3 sides to this: AD, boosters, and Gruden. Credible and now public information is plenty for us know that a deal was close and fell through for reasons I'm not sure about. Gruden did not have potential staff, families, agents, and boosters all believing he would be the next HC because of some egomaniacal plot to sooth his ego. That strains reason to the point of credulity.

It was close. It didn't work out. It's not the first time something didn't work out. But the big boys didn't all of the sudden becomes whiny gossipy girls. Maybe some lower level boosters detached from the action did, but the key players. Something got in the way. I just don't know what.

That information will come out sooner than later. The boosters can and will speak with their check books.

If it isn't Gruden things are going to get ugly, very ugly. The next coach would walk into an almost impossible situation. I don't think a lot of people realize the terrible situation we would be in.

Thanks. Can I call you Jackson?

:p

Miss Jackson if you're nasty.

I disagree. I don't think we need a good hire. I don't want Hart to get what he wants- namely, for the fans to move on and begin accepting the fact that we're going to end up with a good coach. He dropped the ball on the biggest hire in NCAA history.
