I'm not giving up on Gruden just yet, although I do think the chances of him coming here are very very very slim. It's all up to the boosters. If they want to win, they will throw the money around like Christmas. It's all a matter of how much they want to win. I do believe there is/was legitimate interest between Tennessee and Gruden. At the end of the day, he may still be a NFL guy though. Anyhow, as far as more realistic possibilities, I'm going with Strong and Mora (although I wish he had at least one more year under his belt at UCLA). I wish Skeet could give us some news on whether or not we're looking at Mora. Skeet was sounding all in for Strong last night.

How big of a divide is there between Dave Hart and the Big $$$ Time Boosters?

Got this from Lonzo Vol, Warner Agee, who writes the Big Orange Report for the west Tennessee local papers. He posted this on TOS.
How about this synopsis:

The "Blood Bath" occurred on Wednesday between AD and BTB (Big Time Boosters). I'm not sure that they can be repaired. It will be interesting so see how much financial support will be offered to the next candidate.
I'm not sure what you know, but is there any truth to a meeting between only Hart (no boosters present and without their knowledge) and JG/Lamonte....immediately after Gruden would no longer take calls from anyone affiliated with Tennessee.

Same person told me Hart was against the Gruden hire from the beginning and was furious that contact had been made before Dooley was fired. Also, before thanksgiving, boosters went over Harts head to Cheek and got him fully on board 100%....the 18 million resulted from this.

Also, the week leading up to Alabama, three prominent boosters met with Gruden face to face and got a verbal agreement. A few days later six boosters agreed to finance Gruden's salary, the current staff's buyout. The only thing the University would be responsible for was Gruden's staff and a few of their buyouts from other schools. Boosters wanted Dooley canned following SC loss but Hart was still wanting to bring him back for a fourth season. After Troy and Hart still refusing to make a decision, two of the six boosters dropped out of the financial agreement.

Heard all of this from the same person. I have confirmed some of it with a few people that know more than me. Haven't wanted to drop such specific details but I don't think it really matters anymore.
What do you make of this? Not trying to keep the Gruden deal alive as much as if this is true, will Dave Hart survive long at UT and how would that affect his new hire in the long run?

oci man u have said it was a done deal for weeks now ? then everything went crazy and he isnt coming, now you say he is are you hearing anything from the AD side of things or boosters? because the booster side seems to be wrong so far atleast out in the open, maybe not behind close doors? can u just enlighten us just a little bit on what the heck is going on?????:hi::hi:

OCI can speak for himself, but I am pretty sure he said somewhere that on this situation he is actually getting his info from someone who is connected to Gruden's camp, which is how he got the names of potential assistant coaches.

No one is going to know the true story. Its possible its true, but Haslam gets what Haslam wants. Some people could be spewing this to save their behind for missing on the Gruden fiasco. Haslam wanted Dooley and Hamilton hired Dooley. If Haslam wants Gruden, UT will hire Gruden.

If this is true Hart needs to GTFO of Knoxville. Who has the power to fire Hart? Just Cheek? If so, seems like boosters could force Cheek to replace Hart.

There is no way that Hart survives if this truly is what is going on behind the scenes. Governor Haslam will make sure that he is relieved of his duties IMO. Cheek knows where his bread is buttered and cooperated...Hart is going to have to learn the hard way.

Haslam has the power to do that and I guarantee he won't. How about we let Dave Hart do the job is hired to do. The last hire boosters wanted was Derek Dooley and you see how that worked out.

I don't believe that for a second. IF it is true, we need to pull the reigns in on the BTB. I don't want an Auburn/Bobby Lowder situation AT ALL!

Can Hart be this incompetent??

Has there ever been a bigger mess than this within a university/AD? That's a serious question.

Dont believe everything you read. Arkansas fans have used the exact same script on Jeff Long. Its his fault that Jon Gruden didn't go to Arky because it was already a done a deal with the boosters and Gruden wanted the Arky job. So it could be Gruden playing the game, people jumping the gun, or Gruden wanting to go to both Arky and UT but the Jeff Long and Dave Hart screwed it up.

I cannot believe how many people think because it's on the internet it must be true.

Gruden's agent, Bob LaMonte, told The Knoxville News-Sentinel on Friday that reports Gruden was mulling over a contract offer from Tennessee were from a "fantasy world."

At some point the AD has to put booster in their place...writing checks. Hart worked for UA and FSU and he's not the type that would allow $$$ guys to make the calls.
