Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

Guys who think Gruden is the only one who can win here are mistaken. We have almost 800 wins without him.

I agree with this. I think we would like a quick fix to our football woes and Gruden would be that. These other names while may be solid may require more time thus more patience from the fan base.

BBM I was told that the reason he was not coaching or pursuing coaching anywhere was he is staying in Tampa at least until the other two sons graduate. If that is true then I find it admirable.

That, in and of itself, would be admirable. But, if that is the case then it is far from admirable the way he handled the situation. IF he let on like he was interested, knowing that he really wasn't, that isn't admirable. Also, IF that is the case he should have came out and said that instead of letting his agent take a dump on the university and fans.

Morning Smokey... you still believe it's Gruden... I think I have moved on.

I still want Gruden.... but am afraid it's gona be Strong

NOOOOO! Coasty .... the negative waves have finally torn down your pillar of faith in Gruden?

think about it 24 hours ago we were talking about how we could get gruden, now we are discussiong if Strong will accept our offer..... That is a huge drop off.

Guys imagine if i were a car salesman (which I'm not) and was trying to sale someone a car. I get the car they want at the price with right financing. Then they want something else so I meet their needs again. This keeps up several times. Gets to the point where I decide their not really interested. Think that's what this is. If guy doesn't want to be here then so be it.

I'm not saying it is fact but it does make sense. I don't think he played us or anyone else for that matter. Do we have facts that he has done anything or just what the media has said? I still hope it happens. :good!:

I am not saying you said it to be fact that is why I tried to capitalize IF. I am just saying if that was the case then why entertain te idea if comig here if you knew you weren't going to because your boys were still in Highschool and you wanted to see them graduate. I also think this is admirable. It's all speculation so we will just move on. BUT we do agree on this.
Everything is totally unofficial. And other than what was said by Lamonte and the Chatt TFP reports the rest seems very unoffical and scriptes and strange. Reguard less of who anyone wants as a coach, nobody knows what the heck is going on. From one hour to the next we are constantly hearing conflicting stories and reports. It had an eerie feeling to it. And We agree on the fact that it ain't over until its over and that doesn't happen until we have a new coach.
There's a lot that is not adding up and is just strange.
GBO

Please note I'm not listing realistic possibilities...just giving a list based on coaching and or recruiting.

Jon Gruden
Bob Stoops
David Shaw
Nick Saban
Les Miles
Pete Carroll
Charlie Strong

My real preference after Gruden is to get Tom Jurich and Charlie Strong in a package deal, truth be told. Not because I'm dissatisfied with Hart. I just love Tom Jurich.

Jurich IS the man. He's not gonna let Strong go easily, and i think Strong probably has some loyalty too. Coaches love Jurich.

I don't care if we hire my son's wide receiver high school coach, but if we hire a Bama "Smart" guy, I will find a way to have a conversation with Mr. Hart.

I'm not giving up on it, as I honestly think that Gruden is the most likely candidate who can truly turn around Tennessee in the next 5 years.

Every other name I've heard sounds like Dooley 2.0.

I like the idea of Bob Stoops, but I really don't want a guy who is going to be remembered for his legacy elsewhere.

There is NO dooley 2.0. No one could be that bad a coach. Better high school coaches out there.

I can't wait for this to be over, and will support our Vols regardless. I agree with many of the posts here, especially those that say Gruden would be the fastest, but likely not permanent fix.

If there is any hope left for Gruden, I believe it lies in his ESPN ties. I don't think it was ever reasonable to think he was bailing on MNF before the end of the season. A process that had been on the "down low" was now made very public.

My hope is that everyone "in the know" was told to shut up or kiss this thing goodbye. Now we just wait until the day Hart stands at the podium.

Who is Payton? Thats a female name. Now Peyton on the other hand has said hundreds of times he has no interest in Coaching.

Obviously, I misspelled his name. Thank you for being the vowel police.

Don't think his saying he's not into coaching would stop rumors initially.

Morning Bruin.... I am trying to move on.... I think it is Strong now,

I still WANT GRUDEN... but don't see it happening now... plan to keep my bannere fro a while to serve as a reminder of how fooled I was

Ohhhhhhhhhhh nooooooo! I thought you were 80 % until someone else was announced. I based my formula off yours. Am I gonna have to adjust mine now?

think about it 24 hours ago we were talking about how we could get gruden, now we are discussiong if Strong will accept our offer..... That is a huge drop off.

It's a three story drop off...but this was part of the discussion on several occasions during the momentum building moments of this thread.

If we don't get Gruden, I'm assuming one of the brilliant reporters at the presser will ask something like "Hi Coach <insert name>, how does it feel not to be Gruden?"
