Whoever the new coach is, he is going to get destroyed in the first year on the job

The scary part is that I don't think there are many names out there that are going to 'unify' the fanbase as Hart wishes.

You have to bring in a BIG name to do that - I'm not even sure Jimbo's name is big enough to do that....

I'm going to allow my mind to open up to another hire, having said that...it would not surprise me one bit if yet another level of negotiating began with Gruden at any point and time.

How's that for keeping one foot in the door? Lol

Everything going on right now fits the whole middle of December timeframe. If it's not Gruden I think we name a coach by next week IMO. If we still haven't named one by then, then folks might start jumping back on the Gruden train.

Good point. If we don't have a coach next week the Gruden deal may not be dead.

What is the timeline associated with this info, before or after all the media battles yesterday morning? I ask because I have virtually the same statements on texts that I got mid afternoon Thursday when I got confirmation on the locker room being set up for a press conference that is expected to occur next week.

That info was relayed on Thursday.

Please note I'm not listing realistic possibilities...just giving a list based on coaching and or recruiting.

Jon Gruden
Bob Stoops
David Shaw
Nick Saban
Les Miles
Pete Carroll
Charlie Strong

My real preference after Gruden is to get Tom Jurich and Charlie Strong in a package deal, truth be told. Not because I'm dissatisfied with Hart. I just love Tom Jurich.

No way Charlie Strong belongs on that list. Sorry. The rest I agree with though.

Or Stoops if he loses the OU fans will help move him. I know its another pipe dream.

I like the new AVi....gona keep my banner for a while at least till a new coached is named..... I hope it will remind me how an old man can be so fooled....ha ha ha

Because he's from Bama duh :p

well i hate bama...EVERYTHING about them, but there has to be a reason he left...not to pull an inside job to destroy our program..he didnt hire DD this is his first big hire for our program..give it time to play out

I agree and LOVE the new avi!!! :)

Don't have time today, don't have time to catch up.

babyvol news disappointing.

I believe Hargis, don't believe Hyams.

Believe Gruden was not on Hart's list, his contact if any was to get boosters out of the way so he could find HIS coach.

Not over.

I could back Strong. Not Fisher.

keep the faith grudes,

IF that is true then why would he play with us like this? Not an attack. Just a thought.

And I am not attacking either, just because we are all talking about it on a message board does not mean that Gruden has done any of this. It could be that he said that all along and everyone blew it out of proportion.

I still believe in my gut that it is Gruden until someone else is announced. I hope it not me being wishful.

The only way you can unify the fan base is to have a coach that bring us wins. Names do not win football games.

Leonard speaks to what many former Vols I know are also saying and that is Coach Strong would be a great next head coach. He gets the player's respect and they earn his. Would have loved to have seen how Strong would have dealt with DaRick and Bray the past year.

Yeah, Strong is my choice of the candidates available.

Not to mention the fact that he could probably thump any other coach in the country in a cage fight. Lol

Payton is 36 years old. In all honesty, if this next hire doesn't pan out, Payton will be retiring around that time, and rumors will go next level that Payton will come back to coach.

But of course, he would make a statement one way or the other that would solve the problem. Unlike this mess.

Who is Payton? Thats a female name. Now Peyton on the other hand has said hundreds of times he has no interest in Coaching.
