Every time I start to think about the possibility of Hart messing this hire up or Gruden just using us for publicity/hype, I keep coming back to several things:
1. Why in the world would Hart take the risk of pissing off the fan base, the boosters, and destroying the universities athletic department. I'm not a Hart fan but I can not wrap my brain around the fact that he is really so stupid that he thinks he's going to do what he wants to do, disregard what everyone else wants, and think it's going to come out okay for him. Really? He'd have to be a special kind of stupid to think that's going to work out him.
2. If Gruden really wasn't interested, why the harsh response from LeMonte. It's been stated before, if he wasn't interested, why didn't he issue a nice statement like he has in the past. And why was the statement not issued to a national publication/media outlet? If you're going to squash this rumor, squash it good!
3. There has been no statement from Gruden or the University. Not saying there ever will be but that fact keeps me from believing this thing is dead.
Until someone else is announced or walks up to the podium announced as the next HC, I will keep the faith and give Hart and Gruden the benefit of the doubt. Just my :twocents:
Yeah I would have gladly donated again if we got Gruden. After year after year spending good money to see my team get their azz spanked and paying thousands of dollars of being depressed makes no sense too me.Glad more and more fans are willing to let them know that another bottom of the barrel hire is unacceptable
His wife would kill him if he ran her University's name through the mud... and with her family living near Knoxville, that helps too.
The guy has done camps for us and has always stated how much he loves UT.
If he wasn't interested he would have POLITELY said so in a released statement.
Why does no one get this?
And likewise, other prominent persons in this situation are saying that the deal was but done and it derailed sometime last night. Same persons are saying that Hart has been against Gruden since day 1 and that Hart is an @@@.
Obviously if Hart did not want Gruden then he and the athletic dept will spin this so as to put the blame on the Gruden Camp. And likewise the power donors will begin and have begun to leak info that insinuates that Hart derailed the Gruden deal.
Keeping hope alive...
But, somebody posted earlier. Lemonte was referring to the rumors when he said "fantasy". It was the paragraph earlier, not a direct quote, calling him taking the job as fantasy. Compare the two
Quote- "I haven't said anything (about the ongoing rumors) because there's been nothing to say," said Bob LaMonte, the Reno, Nev.-based representative for Gruden. "This, to me, is just a fantasy world."
Editorial paragraph- Gruden's longtime agent called the idea of his client taking a job at Tennessee "fantasy."
These two things do not add up.

Why not...If we have to settle for Dooley 2.0, the last Coordinator we Promoted to HC won a National Title.
If that's the case though, I'd rather See Greg Roman. He wants to Wear the Orange and White. If we have to settle for someone like Golden, I'd rather give Roman the shot.
Not that I believe everything the media puts out there but the story stated LaMonte said...BBMI think everybody is taking the agent quote out of context.
He was specifically responding to the assertion by Hagris that they had been offered a contract and were only apart on assistant money.
He DID NOT say that Jon Gruden coaching at UT was fantasy, or anything like that.
He said that the notion that they had a contract offer was fantasy.
Why can't people understand the difference between the 2?
Here's what I was told.
10mil total offer including assistants when we started at 8.
He kept asking for more stipulations of control. Nothing specific here
A number of times they thought it was finished as in he was going to accept.
After giving he what he wanted a number of times with only more demands they decided he never had any itentions to accept so they had to move on.
They didn't have time to worry about PR( that one pissed me off)
And that strong, gundy, fedora and fisher were the targets going forward. Fedora was least likely because of his one year tenure
IMO the only other big name out there that would excite the fan base would be Peyton Manning at this point and we know that is not happening lol.
