IMO the only other big name out there that would excite the fan base would be Peyton Manning at this point and we know that is not happening lol.

And why was the statement not issued to a national publication/media outlet? If you're going to squash this rumor, squash it good!

3. There has been no statement from Gruden or the University. Not saying there ever will be but that fact keeps me from believing this thing is dead.

Until someone else is announced or walks up to the podium announced as the next HC, I will keep the faith and give Hart and Gruden the benefit of the doubt. Just my :twocents:

Excellent post..I will continue to believe that Gruden is our next coach until someone other than him is standing at the podium.:clapping:

Keeping hope alive...

But, somebody posted earlier. Lemonte was referring to the rumors when he said "fantasy". It was the paragraph earlier, not a direct quote, calling him taking the job as fantasy. Compare the two

Quote- "I haven't said anything (about the ongoing rumors) because there's been nothing to say," said Bob LaMonte, the Reno, Nev.-based representative for Gruden. "This, to me, is just a fantasy world."

Editorial paragraph- Gruden's longtime agent called the idea of his client taking a job at Tennessee "fantasy."

These two things do not add up.

Yeah I would have gladly donated again if we got Gruden. After year after year spending good money to see my team get their azz spanked and paying thousands of dollars of being depressed makes no sense too me.

If he wasn't interested he would have POLITELY said so in a released statement.

Then why hasn't he done so? I stated this yesterday afternoon. Gruden owes us nothing except the respect to make a public statement that he respectfully declines any interest in being our head coach. No harm, no foul if that's the case and everyone can move on.

....as soon as Hargis came on shows here and defended his position the AD would have released info to Hyams and Hubbs that he asked for too much. That didn't happen so I don't believe it.

I'll stick with blaming Hart haha, who is a bammer, seemingly a prick, and does not have experience negotiating anything CLOSE to this big

Probably never would happen...but imagine if Peyton was named our coach in 10 years...recduieand the knowledge he would bring would be amazing...sorry, dreaming out loud!!!

Its certainly spin from one side or the other. I choose to believe the media and AD members over annonnomous message board posters that have been unwilling to look at any possibility of things changing over a matter of months.

If that's the case though, I'd rather See Greg Roman. He wants to Wear the Orange and White. If we have to settle for someone like Golden, I'd rather give Roman the shot.

Out of all the coordinators in the NFL(OC or DC's), I would take Roman in a heartbeat and not think twice..He is coaching under Harbaugh right now at SF and they are having a great season..Not sure of the pro to college transition but I would be more than willing to give him a shot.:yes:

The one thing that was said in the very beginning that has stuck in my head is:
Remember the guy that said he goes to church with the business owners of the business where Cindys mother works? And they told him that Cindys Mom said that they are coming home?
I still believe that. :dunno:

He DID NOT say that Jon Gruden coaching at UT was fantasy, or anything like that.

He said that the notion that they had a contract offer was fantasy.

“I haven’t said anything (about the ongoing rumors) because there’s been nothing to say,” Bob LaMonte, the Reno, Nev.-based representative for Gruden, told The Knoxville News Sentinel. “This, to me, is just a fantasy world.”

"Ongoing rumors" would include all of them I would imagine. If so then that would mean the rumors of Jon coaching at UT are fantasy. Maybe?

After giving he what he wanted a number of times with only more demands they decided he never had any itentions to accept so they had to move on.

They didn't have time to worry about PR( that one pissed me off)

And that strong, gundy, fedora and fisher were the targets going forward. Fedora was least likely because of his one year tenure

Wow. If true and that gets out I would think it would hurt his image in the coaching fraternity. I know it will in the eyes of Tennessee fans. I am certainly disappointed that he would string UT along like that. If true that Peyton was involved it will be like a slap in the face to him. I wonder if the stories are true and Hart was on board and Gruden decided there was no way he could work for him?

Payton is 36 years old. In all honesty, if this next hire doesn't pan out, Payton will be retiring around that time, and rumors will go next level that Payton will come back to coach.

But of course, he would make a statement one way or the other that would solve the problem. Unlike this mess.
