James Franklin needs to be interviewed. 8-4 (5-3) at Vandy! has a top 20 recruiting class so far, at Vandy! The man is successful, his players play their ba!!s off for him... Basically said a year ago that he would not forget the locker room shenanigans from UT, backed up his words a year later and bashed the living crap out of Tennessee... The man can coach.

They did bash us, but I think our players minds were somewhere else that game - too many external distractions and they couldn't look past them anymore.

Anybody could have bashed us - Troy would have put up 70.

Anyone who cares about the types of coaches that Fedora, Strong, or Franklin brings to the mix, only need look at Franklin's staff to see who has the better staff.

First, they are damn good teachers/coaches. The players are prepared and have gotten better under their tutelage. All that against the teams in the best league in the country. Secondly, they all have been recruiting the southeastern United State for at least two years, going head to head with the best recruiting teams in the land.

But of course, we will always have naysayers who dislike the man because he coaches at Vanderbilt, a team that is going to be playing for their 9th win in their second consecutive bowl game-unheard of in their history.

You would say anything but give the man credit. Listen, I know it's hard for almighty Tennessee to ask lowly Vanderbilt if we can take their coach, it's a pride thing. All I know is the man is a winner and he has his players believing they are winners.

I know he sometimes comes across as a douche, but kids love it, recruits love it, the fans love him...

If he can get a top 20 recruiting class at Vandy then he could easily crack the top 10 at UT. We need talent, what we have now is average or below.

Strong is at the top of my wishlist, but I wouldn't be upset with Fedora. UNC fans love him... so did SouMiss fans.

i'd be really happy with fedora - has a great resume and I think he would do great things here - especially if he hired a top notch DC like ellis johnson

Franklin won't get an interview. UT can't run the risk. If he gets the opportunity to publicly turn the job down and bash us, it would be a catasrophic embarassment. He's the type of guy to feign interest just to get a shot in at UT. JMO.

Franklin>>>Fedora>>>Strong

I was not saying anything against Franklin - he has done a great job at Vandy

the only one I am hearing I am not on board with is Strong - being from Lville originally i have watched most of their games the last 3 years and he is not a good in-game coach

I agree with you on Strong. Fedora is a mighty fine coach, but I don't know about his recruiting prowess. Franklin is a very good coach and an amazing recruiter, and thats what Tennessee needs.

No problem.

In short, yes.

That says something for sure...

You and I have been on here for a long time...I know that you're a credible and knowledgable poster...if you're that adament about Gruden then it's definitely something that I take into account...

My issue is the money not the coach...when I look at his resume and the number he's supposedly asking for it just looks like an all in bet without full house...and the number that's being tossed around has the potential to cripple the program (worse than Dooley and Kiffin) if it doesn't work out...that's why I would be inclined to go all in for Strong...

Then again, I'm probably the guy that sells Victorias Secret for 10 million then watches it become a 500 million company in the following years

I would happily take Franklin. He will either stay at Vandy (unlikely IMO) or land a big job like Oregon in the near future. He is an excellent recruiter, motivator, and a pretty good in-game coach.

Only thing that worries me is what O&W states a couple of posts up.

This was just posted in the Gruden cliff notes.

Dave Hart could not have interviewed Larry Fedora in the time frame that Hubbs states. Inside Carolina confirms that Larry Fedora, and other UNC football staff members, were mingling with high school coaches at the NCHSAA Championships last night.

I mean he hates us more than a normal coach would. The guy can be a real prick.
And that matters? Do you think he is supposed to wear his UT Vols pajamas underneath his clothes while he gets his fan base and his players psyched up?

I agree but am concerned about how arrogant he might be with a public turndown of our requests to interview. If he shows he might want to be here he would be in my top 3 or 4 reasonable candidates. At this point behind Strong and Fedora but ahead of Fisher and Golden imo.

This is a direct contradiction to what Hubbs said last night. He stated with confidence that Fedora was not present. Interesting. That could mean that the Strong interview went really well because the plane didn't get back until sometime between 6:45 and 8:30....

Did I say that? He's not just a prick to some teams it's to every team. He's the type of person that loves to trash teams/people.
