I never really thought of it from that angle but you make a good point. I cant believe we are at the point where it is a fear that the vandy coach might turn down the ut job.

Now I'm not suggesting, and neither was he, that this means anything on where things stand today. But it is another clear indication that real conversations have been occurring for quite a while.

I'm hanging in there with the OGs. I think it is logical that all of the past few days "public" occurrences have taken place to preserve JDG's rights to the Tampa Bay $$$. Is there an MOU? Perhaps. Is it signed? Perhaps not. Is there a handshake agreement? Perhaps. Is it legally binding? Of course not. It might void his right to Tampa cash. What about the assistants' $$$ hang up? hard to believe that the big $$ guys would balk over a couple million a year knowing the ROI that canbe generated fron the hire. What is the logical date of announcement? Seems like it would be a date that would be after Tampa $$ locked in, after MNF yet still timely for recruiting. None of these guys got where they are by being bad negotiators. So I' m hanging with the OGs until a coach is announced or the elapsed time indicates it ain't gonna happen.

Hart passed on gruden cause he promised smart along time ago that he'd get him in. lol, if he announces smart as hc, I will be utterly conviced of this and will burn a mattress on his front lawn...either that or ring his doorbell and run on a nightly basis

Hargis has more credibility then them and the Sent and the other one up there combined.....he's NOT a tabloid journalist...and if he really thought he'd been duped or even a 5% chance of it he'd have back off story....but he's put his neck out.

Stephen Hargis is a good newspaper reporter for the TFP. I live in the Chattanooga area and he is highly respected, in fact people at work, lunch, etc.. were talking about what had been reported in the TFP today and no one questioned the information because of Hargis' reputation, which is very solid. Just thought I would show support of your statement above.

Just got a call from a friend of mine , who is an Alabama fan. I've known him for years , he's ok for a Bama fan. He asked me where I was watching the game tomorrow. We start talking football , and who Tennessee is going to get. I never mention Gruden. He brings him up. His words... "Is Jon that full of himself? Is he never going to take another job? He either loves himself , and hearing people talk about him every year , or the man is scared to coach again." I really had nothing to say , except we will see what happens. "You think y'all still got a shot. Rumor is , they are throwing the bank at him. I think he would win , but it doesn't sound like you will get him". I had to remind him that 2 weeks ago , he said Jon would be a horrible college coach. Now , "He would win". Funny how that works. He is now a good coach again , because Bama fans think we are out of it. I'm telling you , nobody wants Tennessee to make this hire.

Anyway , cool story , I know.

I saw an image posted of this morning's front page of TFP, so yes, It was in print.

I started lurking at about 5 I think and joined at 8 or 9 - this has been a blast - I've peeked at VN threads over the years but never actually joined until I found the Official Jon Gruden Thread - Thanks to all! I'm here til the end...VFL!
