Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

With four posts, this must be the truth.

No, seriously. I joined the site a few months ago, and I just read but don't post hardly ever. My brother did the check on that jet and actually said hello to Louisville's coach. He did not put 2 and 2 together until he called me to tell me he saw Charlie Strong, and to talk about us hunting this weekend. I asked him where he was headed, seeing as how they won their conference championship last night. He did not know where they were going, but said the G-5 came from Knoxville. He is now checking on where the plane is going.

If Gruden doesn't get the job...

My opinion is that Gruden respects coach Majors and the university enough to not allow this to play out in a poor light. With that in mind, I EXPECT Gruden to say it with his own mouth that he respectfully declines to be considered as the next head coach.

He doesn't owe us anything except that IMO.

So...
Has UT or the Gru said anything or is it a bunch of Jack wagons like me just speculating?

I ran out of likes, but this is what I have been saying all along. Every one in the media is quoting Hyams about this chit, but this will be the last time they do when they find out he is bogus....

3. Negotiations could still be ongoing.

4. We offered everything Gruden asked for and be still said no.

5. Gruden is asking for too much, and Dave Hart made the difficult decision to not meet the terms.

Listen, if Dave Hart thinks the money is too much, I trust him. He's is a very intelligent man and sometimes the right choice is the hardest choice. I'd rather trust his opinion than some ransoms on a message board who probably can't balance their own dang checkbook (myself included).

If you want my opinion, I think things are still moving. If JG is not our next head coach, I believe it was because of his choice, not ours.

I can get on board with that.

The biggest issue I have with Hart in this whole thing is the way the search has been handled from a PR standpoint. He has to realize that this fan base is rabid over the idea of getting Gruden, and he has done nothing to quell the riot.

Because he never said anything public, the rumors got bigger, louder, and more widespread. He painted himself into a corner that I don't think he can get out.

I just got a call from my brother who is a jet mechanic at the Louisville, KY airport. He just did a routine safety check on a G-5 private jet that arrived from Knoxville, picked up Charlie strong and flew out 10 minutes ago.

Oh look another new poster who is an instant insider.

This is all maddening, its like trying to get my kids in the same room to find out who broke the vase, nothing but fingerpointing and a broken vase.

If what Hargis says is truth, and i have known him my whole life and follow him every day in the TFP and he is one of the best, so i have no reason to think he is being dishonest, but if Hart has screwed this up, IMO, he deserves to be shown the door. Many of you laughed and cussed at the mention of making Phillip Fulmer our AD...lemme say this, we would never have had to question the man's motives. In my book, that goes a long way. Hart was brought in to get us back on top, to this point he has failed and possibly has taken the best opportunity that we have had in a very long time and screwed it up. Maybe its all smoke and mirrors, who knows, but it certainly appears that way right now.

Worse than waiting on election results.

Agreed.

Just say no to Franklin. I can't stand another coach with foot-in-his-mouth disease and goofy gimmicks.

And STOP changing your avatar! :)

Not gonna leave Jon Gruden as my avatar when I am off the "believer" wagon.

Franklin has done things in a similar academic situation and a fraction of the budget. He would be a HUGE upgrade over Dooley. He is going to win 9 games this year at Vandy. I prefer him to Strong or Fedora.

Money is not an issue. Try egos.

The only ego that makes sense is Gruden, if we're talking egos.

Money isn't a problem. Hart said so himself.

According to Hargis, Gruden wants to be our coach but assistant salaries is current issue. I don't believe that, but lends credence to the fact we're talking.

Dave Hart's ego doesn't matter one lick. You're telling me the Athletic Director is going to say no to 5 enormous boosters? Are you kidding me? They'll have him replaced in a heartbeat.

That leaves Gruden as the only ego to worry about. And if you believe Hargis' report, he wants to be here.

None of this makes sense when you look at it logically. None of it.

Smoke, all of it. Waiting for official release either way before I'll feel it definitively done.

They have not said anything.

You remember the Shannon ordeal, every media outlet was saying "sources" Shannon to UT and then it didn't happen, not saying this is similar, but you have to wonder. "sources" saying Gruden is out, but the oppostie could end up happening...JMO....fasten your seatbelts....

Extremely rational of you! Let's say we brought in JG and he was a huge failure...that kills our program completely. We have no idea what he would bring to the college game but judging by his request (if you believe Hargis's account) the numbers would have been that of a pro staff...

What is the number one reason a coach doesn't succeed and fails. More than any other reason is because a coach can't recruit. Gruden would have instant talent when he is announced. Add that with his football guru mentality and we are cooking. A lot of people don't look at the possibility of him failing because the margin that it could actually happen is so small. That doesn't mean you don't ignore it. I however push it off to the side because I think Gruden is smart enough to not let it happen. He has seen 4 years of shouldas couldas wouldas in pro and college athletics. I think he could make a call and not be prideful in order to stop something bad from happening.
