Apparently you did not watch the game last night. His defense gave up 85 yd, & 68 yd. TD passes to the #80 ranked passing offense in the FBS last night. Bridgewater, broken wrist and all, bailed him out on a short field after Rutgers fumbled, or Louisville would have lost the game.

Sorry, I don't understand all the love for Strong. Is he really the best candidate after Gruden?

Yeah, lets just ignore what the defense did the rest of the game, and the fact that even with those 2 broken plays they still held Rutgers to 17 points. You know how many games we would have won if our defense could hold people to 17 points. Lets also ignore the fact that he took a Louisville program that Kragthorpe ruined and tokk them to a BCS bowl in his third season. While were at it how about we just ignore the fact that he has been able to get players like Nick Dawson to come to louisville over numerous big programs.

Thank you, gave up only 9 first downs, 3-11 on third down, less than 300 yards passing, less than 50% completion %, 3.2 yards/rush, forced 3 turnovers and overcame a double digit deficit.

It's been a while since a UT team could claim any of those things.

Look guys, Strong barely won the Big East he is not what UT needs..

This argument makes no sense. What coach easily wins there conference? For the most part every conference race is close due to the fact that you are not going to be able to consistently bring SEC type talent to the Big East. You can make a long list of coaches that barely won their conference in a lower division and ended up being successful at a higher league as well

Look guys, Strong barely won the Big East he is not what UT needs. Not to mention he has a BCS game to coach, do you really think he is going to jump before that bowl game? Most likely no, so our recruiting class this year would be in the tank.

No thanks, with the money we have to spend we can do much better than Strong.

What other conference was he supposed to win?

i watch a lot of Lville games - Teddy bails him out all the time - he went 7-6 last year with a loss to florida intnl and now all of a sudden he is a savior - please

his defense this year has faced very poor offenses and has fared quite poorly

these people that want Strong so bad just can't have watched too many Lville games

This whole Gruden thing jumped the shark about a week ago and it has honestly made me pretty ashamed to be a Tennessee fan. Not because they swung and missed (maybe? Perhaps?), but the way some people on this board have reacted to this process. We didn't get Gruden, so what? Get the best fit for the program.

Most everyone hates the idea of Fisher, Strong, Fedora, etc., but I think the tune will change with the first significant recruits who respond well to UT (a la Coach Martin with bball) and I feel like any of those three with UT's resources could recruit VERY WELL. Furthermore, most really good head coaches have a fantastic staff around them and have been made really good head coaches through the recruiting and input of those staffs. Therefore, get a good head coach (Fisher, Strong, Fedora) and put a great staff around them (i.e. keep Pittman and Graham, then build from there).

Just my 2 cents....and thanks for continuing to be the voice of reason (the whole thread) in the midst of chaos.

Anyone remember the US Army All American game last year? Pretty sure UL had 3 guys commit to them during that game. I know Nick Dawson & Keith Brown did. Would be nice to have some LB's like that on this team to help out AJ & Maggitt.

People saying Bridgewater bailed Louisville out are funny. You guys do know Strong pulled him right. Especially when everyone else wanted to move him to WR. So Strong recruits a great player that wins games for him and you want to blame who again?

Nick Saban lost to UL-Monroe his 1st year at Alabama. UL MONROE!

I think they really need to keep Pittman too, he's proven he can recruit & what he did for our OL this year was AMAZING!!

Another staff member nobody has mentioned about retaining is McKeffrey, does the new guy keep him or no? Would hate to have to go through another S&C coach & another change in philosphy there.

This was something I thought about the other day. I would love to see McKeefery stay on next year. He has done a good job and with all the turnover at that position, it might help to have some continuity.

Saban lost to UAB at LSU. And La-Monroe at Bama now he's what??? Oh okay carry-on.

Carlos from VQ said he just got a text stating that Stoops was stepping down at Oklahoma. Nothing confirmed but interesting to say the least...

It was RUTGERS. Their offense looked all-world in the first half.

On a more serious note, after reading the last ten pages of this thread, I'm sensing a divided fanbase if our new HC is anyone not named Gruden. That's JMO. Flame away.

If this is true HG maybe right. And I wouldn't mind Stoops at all. He can wreck at UT on the recruiting trail. Will he rekindle the fire he had when he first started at Oklahoma though........

You do know Charlie was a stud DC at Florida and has improved Louisville dramatically since he got there. (On the defensive side of the ball)

Agree with you, that he has to have a plan to go hire the best offensive staff he can find. That money def. needs to be there.

Yes I know he is a defensive minded coach and thats what I want. But I don't think hes at the Saban level where he can control the team and defense at the same time. Thats why I think it would be wise for him to have a high level DC in his pocket to take that pressure off of him as well as a top level OC who he can trust.

You really do not want your HC focused on one thing unless he is someone like Saban who is just that good.

Is Staley the GA who was with Patterson at the junior college?

Yes Staley was the D coordinator at Hutch. He is still recruiting there for us. Apparently in the War Room Hubbs said that he is selling the idea that they can come in and be the "fab five" to bring UT back to prominence. Apparently in a short time he has really, really impressed out there. EDIT - Also, I believe he has been in 5 or 6 states this week, including the Tidewater area to see Levenberry.

Stoops would be almost the level as Gruden PR wise. He would be one of the few that could keep the mattresses from burning.

this wasnt in strong's first year - he lost to them in his 2nd - and it was w/bridgewater - he also lost to cincy (at team DD destroyed that year), nc state, Pitt, UNC, and marshall along with FIU

7-6, 7-6, 10-2 (likely to be 10-3)

let's compare - urban meyer takes over utah after losing season and goes 10-2 and 12-0

he also took over for a 2-9 bowling green squad and went 8-3 and 9-3

Strong is a 7-5, 8-4 coach - he is just not the answer
