Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

Until UT hires a different coach, I won't discount Gruden coming here. It's not a "I want to believe Gruden is coming!" situation, it's a "I don't trust Jimmy Hyams" situation. Even an official statement from UT or Gruden wouldn't be enough. The words "I guess I have to say it. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach." have been in my head since Hyams reported this.

This is completely insane! If Gruden deal is done, then there is simply no good reason to announce him as the next HC at Tennessee from either side of the aisle. I venture to say that a large number of Vol fans and supported are getting really perturbed with this mess!!!

This is hilarious.

I want you guys to think about what the morning before a 3pm presser for the BIGGEST COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT IN NCAA HISTORY would be like...

Do you think everyone knows 100% it is coming and there is a parade with gold coins and virgins falling from the heavens?

No. It's going to be chaos. And that's exactly what we're experiencing. This entire morning so far is exactly what we all should have expected last night.

I haven't heard anything official from Gruden or UT. An official statement is the only thing that will end the madness. Hearsay means nothing. Not sure why it is taking so long for something to be said but hopefully we know today.

The AD is not going to make a statement about who they DIDN'T hire.

I don't know the truth of what has actually happened, but if JG is dead, I can almost assure you that the best play for the AD is to not say anything. If/when hetalks to the media and he is specifically asked, you'll get a quote something like this:

"Rumors are typical during coaching hires. It's unfortunate, but I understand the excitment of the fans. bla, bla, bla. I am confident we'll find a coach that will move Tennessee football forward, bla, bla, bla."

Today's media is completely a "he said, she said" kind of thing. People choose who to believe.

Uhm....no.

Im not one who predicted a PC yesterday. Heard rumors, but nothing concrete. Im hoping the others were right.

Today makes sense, but the original timeline I heard had us into December.

if it is Dec..they will really cool this thing off to alow that to happen imo

quit trying to blame Hart and/or boosters if we move on. It's Gruden. He is notorious for this and it appears he has done it again.

Move on to who is next if we have to, and stop wanting to fire someone just because Gruden doesn't want the job.

If Hart doesn't stand at a podium and address these rumors as false and proceeds to hire another coach, HE SHOULD BE FIRED. Setting the coach up.

Long time listener first time caller.

I know the position these OG's are in because I have been there on things not related to UT football. Things change and the info is usually second hand at best, but I firmly believe there is some truth to their reports made to this forum. I do find is quite odd that a few of the OG's have disappeared. Question remains did we get are man?

Hart is either a dead man walking in terms of his job.

or

We are in the mist of the biggest smoke screen ploy in UT history. Which would simply be brilliant.

GBO!

good first post....Welcome

You need to quit trolling the cliff notes thread. Hubbs is not a member of the AD and you need to quit assuming that Volquest is a source from UTAD automatically...If you think it is over then leave, you do not have to say it every 10 posts...see ya

hubbs latest sounds like it came directly from dave hart. This thing is over.

Gruden is an egomaniac & once again left a team standing at the altar because he wanted to be courted. Ut will be better off in the long-run if they make a good hire.

@####%^&*(_+#@!*&&^%$$&+_+ you

I'm not an insider by any means, but it's easy to see that this is a power struggle. It's been the boosters vs the university. Sources on both sides are getting different information. Who knows what will happen and who'll win out. John Brice hinted at this last night that Gruden wouldn't be a popular choice by the AD but obviously the boosters are pushing it. Guess we'll all have to wait and see.

That makes ZERO sense. There may be 2 or 3 AD's in college football who wouldn't give their left nut to have an opportunity to hire Jon Gruden. The money a hire like Jon Gruden would generate is astonishing. Any AD in the country would give their right nut for big money boosters along with a high caliber NFL player to financially commit to bringing in a big name coach.

There is no power struggle, only the appearance of a power struggle.

I'd prefer a solid press release - but yes, I agree UT should have addressed it a week ago if there are is no dice here.
