But you think Golden is a fantastic contribution to the Gruden thread?

This thread isn't a Gruden thread.

It's a thread with no direction that we have no idea what to do with other than the fact that Jon Gruden is the most brought up topic on hand. :)

That disaster is over, there is no sense in awarding a guy who just went 7-5 in the ACC, a top-flight job in the SEC. Golden is 40-45 in his coaching career.

Okay, what's the context?

Nick Saban's record at Michigan State wasn't that great either, but when you look at the context of that record, it shows he could do really good things.

On another note, I will make this fast because I'm tired. I spoke to Jennifer who is OL Austin Sanders 2013 recruit Mom on facebook. Me and Jennifer and his aunt Lynn grew up together in Harrison and I've know her all my life.

I asked her about the coaching situation and what she had heard. She told me that Coach Graham and Coach Pittman told her that she will know the new coach in 6-10 days so she told me she didn't know either. Now, she could have been told not to say anything to anyone and that I can respect.

She told me that Austin loves our Vols and he has been a fan all his life. She has been told not to worry about the situation and his scholly is secured. She is praying that everything works out and she has been assured by both coaches that they think they will stay and a bigname coach is coming and again she will know within the 6-10 day limit. She says also she was giving names that would be and yes Grudens name was one of them alone with 3 other names that she didn't go into detail about. She did tell me not to worry about Golden and some of the other names being throw out there.

Again, I think she knows who it is but not saying because everytime I mention to her Grudens name she sends me back a smiley face or thumbs up!!!

I forgot to also mention that Austin is 100% VFL even though she tolds me numerous SEC and ACC schools are calling him. She told me that he even told Bama coaches don't call me again and I'm 100% committed to Vols!!! TRUE VFL!!!!

His pincipal now woks at my high school..Need to gt him to call him tommoow. H came up and visited ou school

What bugs me is that we'll break the bank (allegedly) for Gruden, but wouldn't to try to get another top tier coach? You mean to tell me Patterson, Peterson, etc. wouldn't listen for $6-$7 million per year? Why does the list automatically drop to questionable candidates?

A disaster is Derek Dooley.

Al Golden, while not Nick Saban by any means, isn't Derek Dooley.

Do you honestly think he would win better than 7 games the next two seasons? I don't think he would manage any better than 6 wins next year, and an already doubtful fanbase would turn on him like a rabid dog, Which would destroy any decent recruiting he could manage.

Whether fair or not, it's the "idea" of paying those two guys $6-7M.

I can make a case for Gruden at that price. It's hard (despite their incredible success) to defend that price for Patterson/Petersen.

What has strong done to make you put him so high on the list?

He is a defensive minded coach that we certainly need

I love his physical style he plays. It's what wins in the SEC

He is a proven elite recruiter

He has proven he is winner as a HC

He is young which I think is important with this hire

I think by 2014 eight wins with Golden is possible.

Strong also hasn't ever had a losing record as a HC, even with the pitiful roster he inherited up there a UL. He's also conditioned for the SEC, and has recruiting ties all over.

By the way, Strong has NINE COMMITMENTS this year.

Hubbs, Hyams, and Low just seem lost on this search. According to Hubbs, Dave Hart is just sitting in his office, making a couple of phone calls, and waiting on the coach's convention. He shot down the Gruden stuff until today when Hyams came out with the cancellation news and then he regurgitated it. Now he's guessing that Hart was just throwing a hail mary by asking Gruden for a preliminary meeting and he was immediately rejected. This just does not add up to me. Why would the AD leak this to Hubbs and Hyams to embarass themselves instead of just saying that Gruden was not apart of the search? Sounds like the AD is controlling these guys and trying to get the heat off of Gruden by releasing this information.

Are you really saying that coaching at Temple and Michigan St. are even in the same conversation?? Come one man, quit while you are ahead.
