We are tennessee ! We will be OK without Grude. He has an ego the size of Texas. I think he is scared. When Notre Dame, Miami, and other pro football programs come after you. Your ego goes sky high. I really think his high demands will never get fed. I think he is scared he can't compete in this conference his name is not associated with failure, but if he is not successful that is it for his ego and rep. Don't worry we will find the right person.

I got depressed earlier thinking we lost him. After weighing everything, I think they are deflecting attention away from him so they can hammer out the deal. Way too much went down today, from Mike and Mike, Hyams report, Golden interview, etc.

I am again fully confident Gruden is coming. Can't freaking wait!!

It's looking more and more that we were witnessing smokescreens today.

Here you go smokey from cliff notes .hope it cheers you up.

I'm sure he has concerns with NCAA violations and procedures, but I truly believe that's why his staff, and money for said staff, is so important to this happening. I'm sure it will get worked out! 😄

I said last Thursday night that it looked like someone wanted out and was trying a way to save face. Looks like nothing has changed but at least we will not blame Hart for this if true. With these demands I just do not see a deal here. Something would have to change on Gruden's part. We are already in trouble with the mess left by Kiffin.

For $5mil a year I would expect Gruden to build a winner and never have a problem with recruiting or compliance. That is if he could?

But I do wonder what is going on with new issues with ESPN? Did we find out thru due diligence that they want a buyout also? I thought I had heard that he signed a new contract this year and I wonder what the terms and conditions of that agreement are and are we being asked to take care of it?

I for the life of me can't imagine that wasn't addressed early on. I have a feeling maybe he is looking for a way out.

In the early threads (Gruden 3-7) people thought the idea of even having a chance at Gruden seemed far fetched. The "Rumors" seemed impossible, the "OG's" laid it out and spoke of deflection, denial and very little info coming from the AD as the time comes closer, Guess what? is that not we are experiencing at this moment?

Gruden 2012

4th quarter BABY!

Jon Gruden and scared don't coexist.

Couldn't agree with this more. I run a small boutique recruiting firm in Knoxville dealing with executive hires for high tech/biotech. It is always a give and take, even more so at the higher levels. I will say this, deals rarely go down as planned when they are this high on the food chain so don't be surprised if this gets drawn out past Friday, or as late as mid Dec.

Exactly

Wow. Either a big smokescreen or Al.com missed big time.
Thought the same thing...

Anyone ever seen the Good the Bad and the Ugly? At the end of the movie the ol Mexican standoff?

With all the coaching vacancies, it seems a LOT like a mexican standoff. I hope Hart is Eastwood.

Cant wait for someone to que up a gif of that scene in the movie.

Just curious if you have heard anything about an assistant AD and someone from JG's agent's office having really heated phone conversation yesterday?

Maybe OV or Boro will chime in on the question also...

What assistant ad? The one that is the true assistant did not. Thats who i have talked to. He hasnt been involved in the process.

Maybe we should make a "Dear Jon and Cindy" thread on here. Each one of us could say what it would mean for them to come, and grovel profusely.....only one post per member, and intense groveling from all...

I know you are struggling with your decision. I just want you to know I wish you well wherever you go, but my heart will break for you if you announce ESPN. We love you in Tennessee. You would be our hero....

But I watch you and I think you do what it is you do as good as it's ever been done.....

We love Dave Hart and the brass he has brought to this battle....

But most of us will love you and want well for you. That's just the kind of people that live here in Tennessee. I'm sure your wife's family knows something about that.....

I hope I see you on campus sometime so I can shake the hand of a man that is getting set to coach big time SEC ball. You got it in you, bro, you just have to take advantage of all your opportunities. Work your hardest whatever it is you are doing. At Tennessee You will lead the team your first year and there is a real possibility of winning. The longer you do it at a high level, the better your chances are for the millions that come with coaching at the next level. We love you Jon.
