True. Another AU tidbit is that LB Coach Thigpen told commit Earnest Robinson that Petrino may be next head coach. He visited Earnest Robinson and said Petrino along with Jimbo Fisher and Gus Malzhan may be next coach. Earnest's coach said if AU hires ones of those three then Earnest will remain committed.

Guys goggle CUM hiring at Ohio St. This seems to be playing out just like that did. Look at how many people denied including CUM anything about it. Look familiar???? Hell I'm all in!!!! My only hope is he truly wants to be here, and comes with a fire like no other cause it ain't for weak hearted. All in or nothing!!!! Vols for life!!!!

What lies? The report was that Auburn has spoken with Strong in a phone conversation that may or may not precede a face-to-face interview.

I just mean that boosters can't supplement pay and schools can't own stakes in NFL teams, therefore Browns stock cannot be part of a Gruden/UT deal.

@SIPeteThamel: Just spoke to Charlie Strong. He's angry, says he did not interview at Auburn and has not spoken to them. "It's not true."

Pat Forde said that he didn't interview, which is correct. Auburn did have a conversation with him, which was more exploratory than anything.

Louisville over AU in the long term, give me a break.

Wouldn't the insiders pretty much agree that everything is going according to plan? We knew all these leaks and erroneous information would come out at some point. A deal as complicated as this doesn't just happen in a day. In addition, I saw everyone freaking out about the Mike and Mike interview--all I heard Gruden do was quickly change the subject--he sounds kind of like Hart did during the Dooley Press Conference. I'm also not buying some of blogosphere idiots that report Gruden's percentage chances to go to the NFL----I'm still 100% on Gruden! GBO!

Did you watch Harts presser? He said exactly what he was going to do. And he's doing it, he's looking for a head coach. If it's Gruden, so be it. If it's someone else, it's someone else. Hart is not a man that's going to play with rumors that the fans started. He's going about his job in a professional manner. It's the nutjob groodenites that have been spreading the BS and now they have set their expectations to the uber disappointment level if Gruden does not accept an offer - if one is made.

As for losing ticket sales and recruits JUST because gruden won't be our next coach, that's a bit far fetched. If fans and recruits are that fickle, well I guess those recruits can just follow gruden to his DIV1 coaching job that he does accept.

please the guy is the KING of his state and today became best recruiter in the ACC with keys to Fla, Ga, Ky and roads into Ohio. Why settle for being second to Saban and Bama. He'll make more at L'ville bc of his yearly bowl bonus. Sorry that no real coach beside Bobby P want that job.

Me too. Just wondering if it goes both ways. Personally, I find it incredibly stupid to pile on with insults and hate when OCI, skeeter, whoever gets something wrong in this game. Bottom line is it's pretty clear UT and Gruden are in talks, it's not like all of this was made up out of thin air like some trolling rumor.

Anyway, I haven't wavered a bit. Gruden's coming and it's going to be awesome. IMO JMO TIFWIW

I don't think we can, Ron. I'm a serious doubter. I appreciate you and all the guys who believe, but there's just not enough out of legitimate news sources for me to believe.

I ask myself every time I see something positive posted on Volnation if I can turn to my buddies at work and say with conviction, we're getting Gruden! And I just can't. The positive stuff is all anonymous posters (some of whom I appreciate, like OCI). But the negative stuff is all regular media, who have reputations to uphold, or from Gruden himself (this morning).

Either Hart, Gruden and the AD are doing one of the best smokescreen jobs ever, or this just isn't happening.

It's clear to me some significant negotiating has gone on (which I used to doubt, but now no longer do).

But I do doubt this is a done deal or anything more than a long-shot.

I don't know that we're getting Gruden either, but I can't really recall a coaching search where both the candidate in question and credible media sources all came out (during the search) saying that he/candidate X was definitely interested in the job and most likely going to take it. I'm sure this has happened somewhere, but most cases I can think of, the media didn't really know until the AD in question was pretty much set to bring the coach to the podium. And candidate X didn't fess up to being interested until approaching said podium.

I didn't mean guys like you vol2002, I meant more of the 'haters' not doubters. It's probably smarter to doubt all of this and not get sucked in honestly, certainly less of a let down if it doesn't happen. But I just get tired of the handful of guys in the Gruden thread and other places on VN that feel the need to constantly call people liars or idiots for posting/believing info that is shared (just like skeeter and OCI in recruiting).

I think if Gruden is the new UT HC those guys should man up and apologize to a lot of people who've stuck their neck out to share information. No excuse for acting the way some posters are acting during all of this. That's all.

+1 add me to the burning list. I would be happy to have Gruden but I have seen so much assurance that something was going to happen so great only to find out it was never was even close to happening. So I will wait and see. Cause IF gruden doesn't get hired I can just sit back and watch VN go nuts with its melt down and the calls for Hart's head without knowing what really went on and maybe Gruden just said no I'm going to the Eagles, or Chargers.

They won't. I've been on the Gruden train since September, I'm gonna ride it out.
