Official Jon Gruden Thread XII

Well, there was the tweet last night:

@Brad_Pope: I was just told Hart is no longer in Knoxville and was suppose to be in office in the AM. Keeps getting interesting.

Maybe the meeting was cancelled because they already met. (grasping at straws)

so some of you are such diehard fans of Gruden that you think he bailed on the deal because we didn't go after him hard enough?

Are you a 13 yr old girl? This isn't kid stuff. If he doesn't take it, I don't know how you blame Hart. He has to interview other coaches because Gruden hasn't signed a contract yet.
Let Hart do his job. If people say no, they say no, but it won't be for effort or money reasons.

This, too. But I believe Carter when he said he got word of one.

I believe he did too...but if meeting were indeed planned it would be known from multiple sources, no just his...Im not flaming B, I like him, but he has wavered once, where others have not, and now wavering again, one does not waiver much when he is confident of his sources, especially if linked in the way as has been suggested.

I will stick those who have never waivered.

Not saying he is wrong, but up and down up and down hurts confidence in a guy.

This.

If Gruden says no then hate on him. See who Hart gets before you banish him.

I heard yesterday that Hart was flying out today or tomorrow to finalize things and come back for a Friday announcement. Obviously this is what they are talking about. I do not know much more than that, obviously I was as surprised by the reports as anyone here. Trying my best to find out but have had no luck yet.

Like I said my questions are

Why was it cancelled?

Is it cancelled indefinitely or simply "rescheduled"?

Was this meeting just deemed unnecessary because things got worked out without having to meet?

Meetings get cancelled and rescheduled all the time. I am trying to not read too much into it given the lack of corroboration and literally not a peep from the AD.

I still stand by the reasoning that Hart is not stupid. He knows the fanbase is salivating for Gruden. He knows any other name will be a turd in the punchbowl. The only way to have this NOT happen would be for Hart himself to address this and announce something definitive. Until THAT HAPPENS I will believe it is more than likely that Gruden is the Vols next HC. Now will I still be at 80% plus into next week? No. But nothing can make me drop under 50-50 short of a University or Jon Gruden announcement specifically stating he is NOT a candidate for the job.

This could be a hiccup, a non story, false, true, we do not know. Try to not let the sky hit you guys in the head.

Well said my friend. I'm with you!

Hyams was reporting that Hart would begin interviews next week, in NY, or whatever. Now, it is reported that Hart is talking to Golden Thursday. IMO this is exactly what was predicted by OG's. Things were picking up steam and now all of a sudden the AD is spilling things and Hart is doing interview tomorrow. The term "smokescreen" is all to common, but....

The OJGT XII is on FIRE today!

We are coming in for the climax soon--wait for those numbers

Completely lost... I can't find the twitter post where Hyam's said he had 2 sources in regard to the car being rented at the airport. From what I read he was tweeting the other Kilby what he had heard.

Any chance he is assuming a meeting was cancelled so he could make people think he knows what is going on??

Nothing short of a catastrophe.

That they would even talk to golden is a disaster.

In less than a decade UT has gone from a top 5 program to the bottom of the sec. Dooley should never have survived last year.

IMO we worked on Gruden from the start until now. Gruden decided to pass on the offer recently, and now we're moving on to other candidates.

This is the first time I have been able to get on today, but with regards to Gruden getting stock options in the Browns is not unfathomable or illegal. For example, the new Min Kao building on campus using funds donated via Garmin stock. Haslam could donate the stock to the University who could then place that into Gruden's contract.

Whether or not this is something they will do or not is up for debate.

I won't put up with another Dooley. They either make this hire or they are fixing to lose a whole lot of money.

Same here , people will not go through another Dooley. They will really lose more money now than any time over the last 4 years. Hart will have to leave in the middle of the night.

Why people continue to believe the clowns in the media who have been wrong this entire time over the people here who have predicted everything correctly from the end of the MSU game is beyond me.

The only thing that bothers me about all of this.. and delays.. is NSD Fed will be here fast.. It would be nice to have a good recruiting class and that will be hard for anyone in a few weeks..

I figure worst case scenario, Haslam, Manning and the boys are reassuring Gruden that he does want to come to UT.

This was my twitter and yes this morning a friend text me about a hertz reservation at 4:30 for a J. Gruden. This friend does not keep up w football and not a huge fan like us. He works at Hertz rental at the airport. He also said the ATL office brought up a brand new caddillac for this reservation. Then obviously Hyams reported on this meeting today so it lead me to believe this reservation was legit.
IMO I believe the meeting will still take place

This.

To what end? If Gruden is going to be hired either way, Hart's reputation is not ultimately at stake. In other words, what does it do for him to be seen as the savior who swoops in at the last minute, or the logical calculating business man who got exactly what he wanted from the beginning?

I don't understand this logic, and I have heard it used more than once.

It makes him not look like a lame duck AD who has sat in his office for 8-9 days doing nothing. He looks pretty bad to most fans now. No one is really gonna believe he reached out to Jon Gruden and made this hire all on his own. You give the illusion Gruden deal is in trouble and you save the day, and he gets more credit than he deserves.

To many things happened BOT decision etc... This is not Hart's hire, The Memphis leak was meant to embarrass public officials and boosters for being so heavy handed in the hire. Just maybe with that embarrassment and attention you get the money players to back off fearing damaging publicity. Maybe Sexton can get his coach a look or a raise, win win on his end.(just an opinion no source).

Fixin to get a coach that only a hand full is going to like, hate it?.. but that is the way it is. I would protest the university for not acting sooner, THEY knew DOOLEY was not the answer after losing how many games?. WHO is the best coach left that you want that can recruit and win with what he has?
