Have been a Vols fan since kindergarten, over 30 years ago. Up until about 6 years ago, i had lived a pretty "clean" life, just the occasional drink with dinner, rarely ever used a 4 letter word, pretty low key and quiet, even tempered, a real family man spending alot of my free time with the wife and children, dont miss church hardly ever and actually paid attention when i was there....now i find myself every day wanting a beer or three, not only using all of the 4 letter words but even at times this past season making up some new ones, constantly agitated, every free moment at work, at home...even at church, reading Volnation and looking for the latest Gruden news. I have gone from 1 can of dip every 3 days to a can per day, wife has threatened to leave because of my attitude, has threatened an intervention, and every night as i turn off my phone i swear i will not spend the next day with a constant watch on Volnation looking for Gruden, yet here i am again.....listen, when this is all said and done, are we all gonna have to seek professional help??

Go Vols. Come Gruden (or somebody, soon, and give us all some relief)

I sincerely hope you are just laying it on thick. The sun did come up this morning, will tomorrow, too.

Step back from the ledge, bro.

Text from my cousin (current UT student)...

"My friend was crossing the street and a big tinted-window SUV with Tampa Bucs plate was turning right. The guy looks in the window and boom there's Jon Gruden waving him across the street."

Just sharing a third hand account. My question is why would Jon Gruden drive himself and have his own car in Knoxville. Could be mistaken identity.

Dang, he should have run out in front of Jon, then we could have a police report to verify.

Soon

All I can do right now is smile.

The info I received will start leaking quickly I'm sure. That's as far I to it as I will go. Just do what I've been saying all along. Chill and wait for the best news we've had in decades.

I know this isn't the NFL, but C'MON MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:loco:

Dudes. Its Gruden. Be prepared to get excited friday at 5 est. until the official announcement, all we can do is speculate. Capitol Hill UT alumni and donors all say Gruden for sure

It'll go back up this evening sometime... the OG's will come in and drop some good vibes. That will calm the natives for an hour or so. Then it will go back down. Around 3:30pm today, we will be at the very bottom. All the FF guys come in spewing their Hyams and Rucker venom. I just sit back and watch the show. Gruden is coming!

It's time.

This just came across the wire here at the paper:

Vols up ante for Gruden

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jon Gruden stands to make a healthy sum of endorsements and gifts should he accept Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart's offer and become the next Volunteers head football coach.

"We will give him free cheeseburgers and draft beer for life," said Sonny Heiges, owner of The Cottage, a local hangout in Johnson City that is frequented in summer months by South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier.

"Hell, we'll even ban the old ball coach," added the owner, who was a sideline guest of Spurrier and his brother Graham during the recent Vols-Gamecocks game in Columbia, S.C.

Heiges offer of burgers and cold beer aren't the only items at the table for the much-cherished former NFL coach affectionately known as 'Chucky' by his peers.

Pam Sutton, the widow of Parrotsville resident and the late legendary moonshiner Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton, said her husband was a big Tennessee football fan and she had the perfect gift for Gruden, whose wife Cindy is an East Tennessee native.

"There is a secret stash of liquor only a few people know about," Sutton said. "He can have it all!"

Tennessee spokesman Jimmy Stanton had no comment on the situation than to say, off the record, "If ol Bud were still here, this hire would have leaked weeks ago!"

The most interesting offer came from the fictitious John Lee Pettimore, a famous resident of Copperhead Road in mountainous Johnson County, who offered plenty of "tobacco" seed from Columbia and Mexico.

Gruden's representatives had no comment.

The theories have been laid out since VERY early on in this saga. Do you just read what you want to read and skim past everything else?

1. Potential (large?) buyout payment still owed to Gruden by the Bucs. This would seem to be the biggest reason.

2. To make it appear that there was an actual coaching search.

3. Lots of legal maneuvering with his contracts etc.

No clue if any of these are truth or rumor but I find it hard to believe that you haven't seen them mentioned in these threads. Or maybe your reading comprehension skills are lacking.

I applaud you for taking the time to break it down for "that guy".

A $50m contract is significantly delayed over something like $200k?????

Don't buy that for a second.

If I'm the one they are pursuing with every available resource, I would have no problem waiting another couple of days to pick up 200K.

You must live a nicer neighborhood than me.
