Official Jon Gruden Thread XII

Here's the thing I struggle with in this whole Gruden saga, and keep in mind I really, really, really want him here. But one of the points people keep bringing up is that he'd take this job to get his wife back to Knoxville. Here's my problem with that. He's been out of coaching since 2008. He works for ESPN, from what I can tell he leaves on saturday to go to where MNF is and comes back to Tampa on tuesday mornings. TAMPA. That's where they've chose to make their home. They could be living in Knoxville, or close by, if they wanted to, but they've CHOSE to remain in Tampa. I just don't see that as being one of the major points.

Just gonna leave this here:

She's learned to ignore the terrible words her husband can be seen mouthing on the sidelines, and a schedule that has him leaving the house at 5 a.m. and not coming home until 9 or 10 that night early in the week. And most of all, she enjoys the Fridays, when Jon gets off early, plays with the boys (there are now three of them) and "we go out to dinner or, if there is a miracle, I cook something."

It isn't a life for everyone, but there was a time when Cindy Gruden lived in the hills near Knoxville. Her family had lived in the area for generations and it seemed entirely possible that she would too.

"It used to make me crazy, it was so quiet," she said. "Then I met Jon and there was no more of that."

Agree but that is why we have to wait. I hope it's not Gruden stringing us along until something better comes up. That would be the worst.

With that said and he is stringing things out it could be a win win for JG and Dave Hart. Dave may be waiting for Jimbo which gives him cover until the day of the announcement.:loco:

I don't remember exactly but I believe Gruden once made a comment about staying in Tampa and letting his son get through High School.

How would that be a win for Dave Hart? He could hire Jimbo and then be fired within 2 years, so he doesn't have to deal with this stress anymore?

I have often thought this same thing...If they wanted to be back in Knoxville, what has kept them from it??

Pure speculation on my part, but perhaps:

1. Didn't want to uproot the children. They did (still do) have kids in school, and many parents won't move their children without reason.
2. The Fired Football Coaches Association. The organization was founded by Jon and runs out of a Tampa office. Perhaps he didn't want to move it to another location
3. If you're traveling for work anyway, then why move away from the spot where you've already settled. Gruden was fired in Jan 2009 and hired by ESPN in May 2009, so he had a traveling job just a few months after the Bucs job.
4. The housing crash started in 2006-2007. Gruden was employed by the Bucs from 2002 - 2009. It could be that they would have had to sell their house at a loss at that time as the value could've fallen significantly from the time of their purchase.

All of none of these could've played into the decision. I'm just thinking of rational reasons that would've kept them from relocating.

Did you guys hear what that caller said on Tony B. about there being a possible issue with Gruden announcing he is going to be the coach of UT with him still getting paid by Tampa?

What do you guys think? May be why it's so quite...

Whether my heart explodes from excitement or if I bleed out from disappointment, one thing is for certain. My blood will still run orange

That's amusing. I started a blog a week ago titled "If I bleed orange, I am bled out"

seems to be a pretty common feeling, 'round these parts.
