Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

Has Dave Hart told anyone in the media or on this board that he was going after Jon Gruden? I doubt it. Why does he need to say the man is "out" if he was never "in? It makes no sense that people expect explanation for things that may not even be the case. Maybe Gruden is hired, maybe not. Hart does not need to explain himself or give reasons why a candidate is not an option just because the media and or fanbase as started a fabricated search in their minds.

Even Hyams and Hubbs have reported mutual interest between UT and Gruden. It's all over the radio. It's a rumor that deserves a denial if untrue.

Been hearing Chip Kelly's name more than I should in regards to our opening.

He DOES only make 1.9 million and has zero ties to Oregon.

Hmm...

if he's going anywhere it's the NFL.

Whoever is mentioning him for our job you need to quit listening to.

Was Kiffin a "hurry-up" hire?

Depends

Hamilton, to my knowledge, fired Fulmer without having a plan in place to replace him. I could be wrong about that

If so, he started from square one without having an idea of who he wanted or who was the best fit. He had not gauged interest by other coaches and knew who he would go after if he had to replace Fulmer, either from bad coaching or if something tragic would have happened. You always have a plan

Hamilton then realized that interest in coaching UT Football was at a low point, especially given the amount of money he was given to work with by UT. He was left with two options, Brian Kelly and Lane Kiffin. Hamilton bit on the Star power of Kiffins staff instead of throughly researching his options and making a good decision

In hindsight, he did hurry the hire when it came to Kiffin

The biggest thing that I keep going back to pertains to hubbs. I have stated numerous times he will be the one that breaks it that gruden is out if that ever is the case.

Hubbs posted yesterday something that mirrored nearly exactly my thoughts. He said that UT would/should either announce gruden this week or let the public know he is out.

He obviously doesn't know that gruden is out and it's my belief that if gruden was out hart would leak that info to hubbs.

Hart is smart enough to know this fanbase must hear its not gruden before anybody else is hired. That hasn't happened yet and for that reason gruden is very much in play IMO

I completely agree. I think we're all underestimating Hart's intelligence.

Good morning Grudenfolk.

I hope everybody is well.

I posted this fascinating article last night, but it was crazy so I am not sure anybody actually read it, but it is absolutely relevant to our situation.

The art of hiring a college football coach

It talks about the Mike Leach hiring and how the AD never met with Leach once until the deal was closed. He didn't even know where he was flying to when he got on the plane to get the MOU signed.

This is a very good point. if this thing goes into next week, there is an equal chance that it could be somebody coaching this weekend as it would be for Gruden. It would bring every NCAA FBS coach into play.

I still choose to go with Boro, but it will make it more unpredictable.

If no Gruden, then I'm starting a new movement.

We need a splash right? How about a coach who said he is interested in coaching again? How about a guy who has both a Super Bowl and National Championship ring?

How about a guy who is so controversial that everyone in the nation would be talking about it? How about a guy so bad@$$ that he carries a pistol through baggage check.

If no Gruden...

then who's coming with me???

Note: for those who have no sense of humor, this is a joke.

A joke?? But I was IN.

I think he had a plan. He just didn't have the first clue how to execute it.

Yeah, his spread option offense and 3-2-6 defense really translate well to the NFL...

LMAO!

You need to stop listening to whoever thinks Chip Kelly will ever coach a National Football League game.
