flying to coaches or flying them in? Paying people to set it all up, manage, coordinate? It's a couple grand just for gas. Pilots, staff, travel expenses.

Yeah, I think it's a waste of time and money if for show. They are too busy to do things for show, imo.
In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't seem like it would make a huge difference.

Thanks.
He's actually there every MNF, doing the pre/post game show with Young from the sidelines. I misread the post as he was doing color on MNF.

And I had almost decided to not watch MNF if Chucky wasn't doing his usual commentary.:p

Anyone out there have a source at ESPN? It does seem odd that they have been avoiding the UT job talk like the plague!

I dont think ESPN really engages in coaching speculation in the college game.

If it doesnt have to do with the NFL, ESPN could care less.

ESPN isn't run by some passionate fan base. They are highly successful people who will protect their brand at the expense of any employee. There is no way Gruden just doesn't call the game tonight, and they make some stupid excuse. The reason I say that is the only other option is them saying Gruden took the Tennessee job, and you will know this by Friday. Neither are logical.

Dilfer isn't stepping in for Gruden tonight. He may eventually, but not tonight. If he is, it is because there is an announcement from Tennessee that Gruden is coming, and that also will not be coming down the tubes today.

Cowherd's comments have been exponentially blown out of context.

Yep, we will disagree. I would be 1000% shocked if this thing was held up because of one paycheck from a job he had 4 years ago. Seems like we could easily compensate for that in order to get this guy on the recruiting trail.

The payment is something like $5 million. So, you would pay $5 million just so you could announce him 4 days earlier?

Dilfer has spilled the beans

Next, me need Mike Tirico to mistakenly say Trent instead of Jon tonight and that seals the deal

Gruden is owed 5 million for a job he left 4 years ago? Really?

If that's true then we'd have to wait. But I want to see proof of that being true. That seems crazy that Tampa is still paying an old coach that they fired 5 million dollars.

Gruden doesnt need to be talked down...he offered to come down.

If the rumors about it are true, then you are correct. However, Do you think he came down because he woke up one morning and said "I don't want that kind of money anymore" or because the University began looking at other options that weren't through the roof expensive? Thus, talking him down. If you have no other options then Gruden could name his price and stick by it. If he wants to come here, Hart and the boosters need to negotiate a deal that beneficial to both Gruden and UT, thats all I am saying...

PS: As stated in my original post, I want Jon Gruden.

So according to the media, "Gruden is on the side now". Could it be that UT is going through the motions of having a coaching search to make things look good?

To look good and to dealy until a "hire like this is done in December" to avoid a certain future HC from missing out on one final check?
