Other than the "how cool would it be to have him in Knoxville" factor, why is Gruden your number 1 guy? Have you stopped to consider that there ARE risks involved in hiring him that may not be there with other current successful college coaches?

1.) He's been out of coaching if any kind for 4 years. Who's to say that he would be able to hit the ground running and immediately pick up where he left off?

...Gruden would assemble an outstanding staff who has not been "out of coaching". FWIW, he has been coaching his son's HS team's OLine. He's been mentoring his son, his son is headed to play college ball in Pennsylvania, I think I saw that somewhere. In the meantime, he's breaking down game film announcing for MNF, plus the QB thing on ESPN.

BTW, didn't General Neyland take 4 years off?

2.) He's never been a college head coach. He's never had to deal with 18 year old kids. He's never had to deal with being responsible for player's personal behavior. He's only coached professionals. How would he deal with being able to relate to 18-20 year olds?

Again, coaching HS kids now. He'd be okay.

3.) He's never had to deal with NCAA regulations like
the 20 hour rule, recruiting rules, etc. He's never had to deal with all the promotional and public appearance obligations that come with being a college head coach. We say that Tennessee is not a "learn on the job" program but in a way, that's exactly what Gruden would be doing.

He has one of the highest profile/promotional or public appearance obligations in the public appearance business, MNF. Hard pressed to say he couldn't handle any UT PR work.

The Jon Gruden Show

4.) If what has been said about Gruden is true...that his dream is to get back to the Superbowl...then wouldn't only be a matter of time before he bolts for the NFL again?

Never seen where Gruden is on record that his "dream is to get back to the Superbowl". I have seen where he has expressed interest in Tennessee.

5.) We're going to have to pay a king's ransom to get Gruden. Just how much money would be available for a

Money's not an issue. It never is. Then question is moot.

Having Gruden in Knoxville would certainly create excitement. It would put butts in the seats and probably help move a lot of merchandise. However I don't see why so many people think that Gruden is THE answer to getting us back on the winning path. As if it's a sure thing.

Nothing is a sure thing. Gruden's the closest thing to it.

FULL GRUDEN.

When this has played out, Gruden or no Gruden, these hosts will be unbearable because they will say I told you so no matter what.

That's an EXTREMELY short-sighted answer. It takes more than a fancy head coach's name to have great recruiting. It takes a great staff of recruiters. It takes time to build relationships with these kids to earn their trust. Having Gruden as our coach will of course make more kids sit up and take notice but that doesn't guarantee commitments or signed letters of intent.

Doesn't guarantee it but I think most would agree with his high profile and engaging personality he would blow it up on the recruiting trail.

Ainge just said, "I'm full Gruden". He also indicated that it was Monday and he had to have something to talk about for the rest of the week.

I think its safe to say that when this is all said and done not to many people will listen to him anymore with or without Gruden.

Ainge is now saying he is full Gruden, but is being realistic.

Maybe he means to say he is being more cautious not realistic. If he was being realistic he would realize that there are a lot of signs pointing to Gruden being the guy.

Spring, OCI, and slice were the OG of OG's. I really don't know what to make of Boro. People look up to him bc he's been posting a lot on this thread here lately. While the real OG's just come here to drop a little knowledge or new info if there is any and then they bounce. Just like they have always done.

None of those three were the originals. Just saying. Slice was not buying it at all until later. That is how he has the nickname Buzz Killington. OCI and SBV joined in late in the second thread or early in the third. SBV validated and had the same info the OG's were relaying in Gruden I and II.

You just said that 'absolutely nothing' (100%) in life is 100%. Did you just annoy yourself?

Is the statement that "nothing in life is 100%", 100%? Or is it 60%? I always love self-defeating logic, stated as fact, for convenience of a debate point.

That is a ridiculous statement, btw. Gruden would be 100% if a deal was signed, and he was only awaiting the correct time to announce. Golden would be 100% if he had signed a deal. Heck, Nick Saban was 100% to UA as soon as he agreed and signed his deal.

:hi:

Yes, I'm 100% sure that nothing in life is 100% sure. For you to say you disagree is ridiculous. You're trying to be cute, it's not.

Yeah, they constantly are needling the regulars of this thread. No one forces them to come here. It's ok to disagree but the constant trolling is ridiculous. I let my temper get the best of me, just need to ignore them and move on.

or just learn to realize that disagreeing doesn't mean people are taking personal shots. Way too many hypersensitive people in this coaching search forum

If you will just ignore these posters, and I'm not saying put them on ignore, but just ignore their posts, they will become bored and go back to the FF. Conflict is what they are striving for.
