Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

The way they are all lining up I am starting to open my mind to the possibility they are right. I know Ainge and if he "knew" there is no way he would sound like this. He would have broken his neck to break the story.

Not basing it on any information, no one worth posting about have said anything to me in several days and the media pretty much forming a firing line against it happening gives me concerns.

Hope to hear something at work today as that is usually where I see and talk to people.

Still a believer but will lose a lot of confidence without any new info in the next day or two. I no longer think it is "done" outside the original agreement outline. Apparently the devil is in the details it seems.

Media, lack of new info, Bray now hinting he will most likely enter the draft, and the overall feel of things has me now at 70%.

Good post

That doesn't make sense. They are saying he isn't coming so if he does they'd be wrong. So how could they positioning to be right either way?

Because every one of them has been on both sides of the fence at one point or another! TB and EA change their positions daily!!

Ainge: "My advice for today: believe whatever you want because nobody knows anything about this coaching search. Dave Hart is the only guy who knows. He's done a great job keeping all the info to himself. If you listen to the show about who the coach is going to be, we are just having conversations about hypothetical kind of deals. Nobody knows anything. Am I saying Jon Gruden won't be here? No, I'm not saying that."

What the hell. This guy is all over the place. So, the smokescreen theory now seems to gain a ton of traction.

I still believe that if it is Gruden it will be more like December 17th then November 30th.

Everyone needs to chill. The longer this goes without any official denial from Gruden or Tennessee the better (means talks/dealings are still alive). If the deal falls through Hart would want something official to come out that Gruden isn't coming to allow sometime for the fanbase to wrap their heads around the idea of another coach and to be excited for that hire.

Jimmy Hyams/Erik Ainge saying it isn't likely to happen isn't an official announcement either.

Also Hart legally has to interview a certain number of candidates correct? Hense why he is going to the coaching convention to get those done.

He doesn't have to go to the coaching convention to get that done.

They weren't exactly clueless on the Dooley firing. They were saying is was gonna happen. Just not sure of the timing, as nobody really was.

People here said it had already happened. It was not supposed to be announced until much later but missing a bowl bumped the announcement up. Either way it did happen. OGs - 1 Press - 0

Davis is 61, he won 11 games ONCE in his career, I don't think he's as great as made out to be.
Davis has always been a rebuilder. He left Miami to go to the NFL before he could reap the fruits of his efforts and Larry Coker got all of the laurels.

We need someone who can turn things around quickly like Davis, if Gruden is not available.

NO,no double no. The date promised was the 30th to tie in with Gruden's Tampa final check. Now why the 17th?

Did Dooley "decide himself" not to coach KY game. I read an ESPN article that quoted him to that effect. The way the article sounded was that Dooley had known he was gone anyway and just decided not to be a distraction anymore. Anyone else read that...Think it was Chris Low

They have to have something to talk about. Evryone within ear shot is waiting to see what Ainge is going to say each and every day he is on the air. If he was solid about one postion or the other people would listen because they would know what was going to be said. By going back and forth it creates drama.

Very good post. I think people need to open their minds to the possibility he isn't coming. I, for one, have thought all along he wasn't.

Seems like local Knoxville media is afraid to say much about Gruden or say we have no or very small chance of getting him. Then I hear Boosters and Peyton wants and has paid money for a contract possiblity for Gruden. I think Knoxville media wants Drama or Hart and rest of AD is playing them for fools. Don't worry Grudenites Gruden will coach our team in 2013.

Look can we dispell the whole Gruden - Media- Smokescreen- Denial drama?

First, what credible media source is saying that Gruden will not come? No one.

Second, has Gruden denied comming? No.

Third, there is a methodical process that Hart is taking in the next hire which makaes me feel better about Hart as AD as compared to past AD's....so in a word - chill. We just need to chill and let Hart do his job.

There is no need for the university to clear up a smokescreen made by less than credible sources.

Iheartradio app get's it too.

Sport Talk has never really had a ton of traction w UTAD...much more of an entertainment show...the callers are exponentially better than the Animal. Swamp Rat used to be on with them fairly often...I think Thunder has been a caller/friend to show in past years.

Thunder? Hmmmmm I may take this seriously now. I was thinking no way waits till 4 if he indeed knows who the coach will be. The guy isnt going to allow someone to sneak in and break the story.

Exactly. #smokescreen

The Tony Basilio Show

Excerpts from today's TB blog...

"Jon Gruden is not dead despite what people say."

..."He is off the side for now while UT explores what else is out there. I believe Tennessee's big $$$ heard things from NFL people that spooked them and this lead them to put him off to the side for now."

I would have loved to see Dooley coach against Joker Phillips...it would have been like an episode of 'The Walking Dead'.
