Official Jon Gruden Thread XI

Well it's real late here. Getting ready for the big GC game tomorrow. Should be amazing afternoon lots going on, then then getting ready for the big game. Good thing it's inside. ha!

Well I told you about the meeting. Well i was told and trust me I asked questions (but got the well we will see, i don't know routine) that this might not be a wait and see approach anymore. UT and Gruden are actually having negotiations now. Is that good or bad?

It seems the consensus within UT is that there is now some serious complexity between getting a deal doe and/or just trying to get an idea Gruden wants to come.

Was told the meeting today lasted about 4 hrs but I do not know who was there (aside from my source, and I do know a friend of the family was involved) and even what it was truly about.

I know my side is returning in time for the afternoon festivities and the GC game tomorrow.

My gut feeling now is that if Gruden knew for sure he wanted to be at UT he would have taken the deal. However if there are certain issues that need to be ironed out then maybe that is why the extra motivation and need to discuss. However I was told these type of negotiations are always difficult and no real routine in getting it done. And this one is big because UT is going real hard after Gruden. So I do believe that something else is going on that i'm not being told about. Is there somebody else now? Is Gruden wanting a longer term? Shorter term?

I asked ''Will UT hire a coach by Monday?''

I was told ''There is no way UT will hire a coach in the next 3 maybe even 4 weeks if it's not Jon Gruden.....

UT is going all in for Jon Gruden. Nobody else

Ok VolReporter, if that is your real name, what is the deal with the parentheses?

Happy Thanksgiving Vols,

Very close confirmation involving the UT athletic department and i'm following this very closely....

Was told that Gruden offer came officially Wednesday.....

Also told by a Vol supporter that Gruden and Vols have been talking for weeks and Gruden will decide in the next 2-3 days (by weekened)

It's past three days, VolReporter. Still waiting.......:snoring:

You still as confident as ever?

Here is what I've heard:

1. An agreement was reached two weeks ago
2. From the beginning Gruden wanted distance between the fire and the hire.
3. There are only a handful of people that really know what is happening.
4. Gruden has called several coaches about coaching with him at UT. Most of which have been covered in the Gruden thread.
5. Gruden really wants to be here.

Here is what I know:
1. UT has been dealing with Gruden since the spring.
2. Academic/financial issues between the AD and the administration have been addressed.
3. Dooley is gone.
4. There are some big boosters who still don't think Gruden is a possibility (found this out on Thanksgiving Day). One is a big spender, but not among those most discussed frequently on this board.

Here is what I think:
1. Dave Hart needs credit for the hire.
2. Even if things were signed, we have always been on Gruden's timetable.
3. If a deal is not signed by now, I doubt that it is Gruden.
4. I still think it is done and we will hear soon.
5. Most of the stuff linked from the AD including the coaching list, is bunk.

Not sure if good news, but not bad news, anyway.

If true, it certainly doesn't mean he's coming to Tennessee, but it indicates he is still looking to be on the sidelines next year and it won't be with the Eagles. They were a big competitor to the Vols in some folks mind. One less increases our odds. Good news I say.:dance2:

A deal is in play or there's an agreement? Thought a deal had already been per the OGs.

Depends on who you talk to.

Some believe it is done, others just think its close, as in everything has been agreed to, just waiting on Gruden to sign.

Still others think that it is no longer possible, and then there is Hubbs who can't make up his mind.

My information is 90% aligned with yours...but not totally.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Then its not Gruden then.

I HOPE Gruden was talking to Castillo about a job. The NFL season still has a lot of games to play. Why would Gruden be trying to put a staff together this quick for the NFL? Sure as hell isn't for people that wear hogs on their head.

That's what I didn't get, I was relieved when we fired him.

How did he go from OL coach for 13 seasons to DC?

I take it Gruden is considering him as an OL coach. It would be weird for him to go right back to the place that fired him.
