"Sources tell us that Jon Gruden remains the primary target. Although we have not verified, sources tell us that Gruden, among other things, has requested a $4 million salary pool for his assistants. Not sure how that works out but we are told that Tennessee will be having discussions with Butch Jones as well." Football Scoop dot com

Butch jones? For real? The one guy Dooley actually out coached in a head to head matchup

If Gruden wants an NFL job, he'll wait to take one. If not, he comes to UT.

Here's a question....

JG has been surrounded by job offers in the nfl the past 3 years.... and hasn't taken one.

I don't think he's just dien to get back in the league like some negagrudes think

How many Superbowls did Saban win when he was in the NFL? I wonder how much longer before he gets bored and takes a new job. Just like Gruden, Saban is offered many jobs every year. My guess is he'll be gone to the NFL again very soon. I'm betting Haslam offers him complete control and $8mil/yr+ to coach in Cleveland. If not Cleveland I'm sure it will be someone else soon enough, he won't stay at Bama forever...not his style.

TW - who's the next coach after Saban leaves? Probably have to promote CKS to interim if he left in February for the NFL, I'm guessing.

Might have to make Smart the head coach at Alabama. Yeah, I think that's what they need.

Saban will retire at UA and will not go back to the NFL. Every year we hear rumors of Saban going somewhere, mostly from rival fans being hopeful but it will not happen. He tried the NFL and he will never find a better situation that he has at UA. Saban probably will retire after the next 5 years at UA.

Not sure if Kirby will be here. Each year teams come after Kirby hard and he has yet to bite on an offer. He just turned down Kentucky. But I doubt he is still around after 2 more years and then not sure he is capable of HC at this point at a top tier program.

Yeah, I agree with your comment. We're on the same page. My comment was to say that Gruden would wait it out this year for one of the NFL jobs that are sure to come open (San Diego, Dallas ?, Philly, etc.) if he wanted an NFL job. If he chooses UT, then he has staked a claim with us for at least the next 4 to 5 years, maybe even longer. But, I'll take 4 to 5 years of Gruden over no Gruden. That's just me.

I've heard Texas is going to throw a boat load of money at Saban. They can do it, too. Just a rumor at this point.

Last year the rumor was that Texas was going to offer him 100m for the job and the Cowboys even more. But every year we love to hear the rumors. Like he can not stay at a program for more than 5 years. Since this is his 6th at UA it will be 6 years in the off season.

Haven't you heard, Kirby is your next head coach. Alabama is a great place to start a coordinator to see if he can head coach.

You don't really believe that do you?

That's how I feel. Its not realistic anymore to expect a coach to stay somewhere for 10 years.

Yes and tell me why he would. He was not successful and his biggest complaint was lack of control and being able to demand the players to do what he wanted. Which happens to be every NFL team. He gets everything he wants at UA.

Saban will retire at UA. He has nothing else to prove. But keep hoping.:hi:
