January 19th is 18 days before signing day, which would make recruiting like 2010. Dooley and his assistants had recruiting experience (knew many of the recruits, high school coaches and knew how to manage the recruiting process), so they managed to do okay with less than 3 weeks. However, if we hire an NFL staff that has no recent high school recruiting networks or experience, they will probably need at least 45 days to bring in a respectable class. 45 days before NSD is 12/23/2012.

Should we bring in Gruden, I hope he does not fully load his staff from the NFL. That would handicap recruiting in the short term. He needs to have 2-3 college assistants that having been working with recruits since at least their junior year. This is one additional argument for keeping Graham and Pittman.

Guys like LWS, Skeeter and Hubbs get their info from the AD. Guys like DTO, OS, OldVol, Jay, Boro, etc...get their info from boosters, coaches, agents, etc. (mostly boosters it seems). And Gruden has been courted and closed by the boosters, not Hart. Boosters have been sharing info with friends/colleagues/family. AD has been tight lipped.

And now that Dooley is gone Hart can finally meet with Gruden and get the paperwork done. The boosters are tired of bad hires from AD's and hired a new one 13 months ago so that they could open the check books and get their man. If Hart doesn't do what the boosters want he'll be looking for a new job. Same reason 2 days after Rich Rod was announced as Bama's new HC he "changed his mind" and in walked Saban.

When Boro, Jay, OS, Old Vol, DTO, etc...say it's done that means the boosters have gotten an agreement out of Gruden (signed MOU). Which is how it would be done since Dooley was still employed. Now that he's not, enter Hart to make it official...

So when LWS, Skeeter and Hubbs say it's not a done deal that's because their boss hasn't gotten the contract signed yet or (most likely) not told them anything yet. When the Grudenites say it's a done deal that means the boosters have gotten an MOU signed.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Maybe I'm way off here but from following this from Gruden I, following Hubb's and Co. for years, following recruiting for awhile (skeeter), I'm pretty confident this is how things have gone up until this point. JMO

Question though. Theoretically what Boro said was been in the works since the spring. What if Dooley had went 9-3 or won the east? No Gruden right? Seems sketchy.
