@philkaplan: Cheek: For the next 3 years, money the athletics department has contributed to the campus will be reinvested in the athletics department.

@philkaplan: Cheek: I know that winning championships and competing at the highest level lifts the national profile of the University of Tennessee.

That is called "Trying to save your job"...:hi:

Ditto. At some point, it just gets too ridiculous. So many good coaches could be had for less. We could get Stoops for less than that...and he's a truly proven college coach.

Let's not forget that if Gruden starts winning, his salary and years will only go up. At some point, NO ONE can afford numbers like that.

Those numbers sound whack to me. They are not even close to what this thread has discussed. I think it's a set up so when the actual numbers come out, everybody that listens to Hyams says... well That's not too bad. Four weeks ago, numbers given here would make any football forumer say UT will never pay that. They were not in the know bout the money cause it was only being reported here. In this thread.

Jake I would like to thank you for your Hospitality while I was in Denver. It was great to watch the game with a fellow Vol fan. You have a great bar, see you on my next trip to Denver.

It was my pleasure Marine!!! I love having UT fans as guests, especially one that serves this country!

SALUTE, Sir!!!

Can't wait til next time!!

My fraternity brother from ETSU is Jon Gruden's brother in law, anyway we were Lambda Chi's there in the mid to late 80's time period. My frat brother called me today @ 4:00 at work, and he told me that no way will Gruden take any offer from Arkansas. He said if he takes a college coaching job it will be Tennessee. He did tell me that Cindy and Jon love living in Florida, and they loved living in California, while he coached with the Raiders. Gruden was given the honor of lighting the eternal flame in Oakland, CA in honor of Al Davis, while there Mike Davis - Al's son, told Gruden he would like for him to coach the Raiders again and wished they had him back, and I can tell you my frat brother told me that the Raiders may be our biggest competitor, however, he said and I quote, "You never know what Jon will do, he could just decide to stay at ESPN". Anyway, we both would love to see Jon at Tennessee, and I sincerely hope it happens, as I think it would be awesome for UT. Of course, I'm a huge Raiders fan but my loyalty to the Vols takes precedent over that, so here is hoping that Coach Gruden is in orange & white, instead of silver and black again.. You guys may "flame" me, I believe that is the term, but I have been a UT fan for 40 years since I was a kid, just passing along this information. Go Big Orange!

Cheek freeing up 6 million a year isn't going to get Gruden if he wants 5 mill a year and 4 mill for assistants.

5 mill + 4mill = 9mill a year

I don't believe there is a 9 million dollar demand.... I know it has been said before, but I do not think it is accurate...

Others can correct me if I am wrong...:hi:
