His wife.

Dude is already worth 20 mil + and no matter what they offer its still Arkansas.

And we all know..... If mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy!!!
Seriously though if money is close then why not pick the job that your family and career have past ties with ??!! It is just business but everything that ties Jon gruden to knoxville is a legit advantage/plus to coaching the vols as long as all the other details fall in place.

Hogs supposedly offered Gruden today and he said, "Nope." UT private donors have put money for an offer that is mind-blowing

CBS Sports Brando retweeted this info. Yes, the Same Brando that was laughing at the thought of Gruden to UT earlier.

You might want to reread that qoute, because it in no way says Gruden to UT is a done deal like you claim

A link takes you to another place not to the end. Go to that other place and you filter through how ever many pages you feel you need to. I've drawn my conclusion and been careful sorting through all of the latest rumblings and media releases. Read the Cliff Notes. Credible sources are posting all the tidbits as they're getting it and it's killing them that they can't get the go ahead but it's there. It's done.

11/20, From the Basilio blog today:

Quote:
I don't know why but Jack's call at the conclusion of my show yesterday was very impactful on me. Jack was an older sounding gentleman who called in and stated matter of factly that this 'search for the next coach' is a 'ruse'.

Here's the call.
Jack: 'Good day Tony. You've been on fire today Tony. I'll be brief.'

Tony: Thanks.

Jack: 'I've known this guy since the 1st grade. He's a very influential member of the boosters and athletic board and everything else. So, this isn't second hand or something heard on the radio. The coach has already been selected. And....The contract's done....It's over. Now it's just a matter of timing.'

Jack continues: 'Now, I've heard all this talk about the athletic director. The athletic director has had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. He wasn't involved. I know who was. And he wasn't. They kept him totally out of the loop. (It was like) We'll tell you when we get him. And they've told him. And they've got him! It's timing. So, this talk about the athletic director is a complete waste of time. He's not involved.'

Tony: So you think yesterday (Dave Hart press conference) was a total farce then wasn't it?

Jack: 'It was a total farce. Particularly if you're in the loop. I mean this isn't some people's first rodeo. Dave Hart has to do his job the best he can. But if you think they are going to trust a guy who's been there for 13 months to hire a football coach at Tennessee? I mean there is NO WAY.'

Jack: 'I did business with a major booster at the University of Alabama, he was in Knoxville. Now, this was after Saban was hired and he said to me let me tell you how this went down. Three guys...and you would know all three names....they went to Saban and they went to the Athletics Director and he said "well I've offered the job to Rodriquez out of West Virginia" and two days later Rodriquez said I changed my mind. They (the power guys) told the Athletics Director and the President at Alabama "if you don't change this, all of you are fired." That's the way things go down.

Jack Continues: 'He (Dave Hart) will do what 4 or 5 people tell him to do or he will lose his job. And that's the way things go down. They've already made the call (on the next coach).

Tony: 'Do you believe it's Jon Gruden?'

Jack: 'I didn't ask names. I didn't want to know because I didn't want to compromise my friends trust. It doesn't matter if it's Jon Gruden or James X. It will be a fine name who is a proven coach who's won. Everybody just sit tight and relax. It's gonna happen and it's gonna happen soon.'

IF Gruden comes...Ive been saying all along he is not but this is a game changer...there better be a clause in the contract preventing him to bolt to the NFL without a heavy financial penalty

I agree with you. This has been my only concern with Gruden being our next coach. He has a few successful years and then bolts back to the NFL. Either way, if he comes, we should get back on the right track quickly. Where his coaching may lack, his potential talent draw should take over.

GBO VFL!!!

Heard on Chattanooga's 102.3 Sport Talk today:

The rumor is that transcripts for Gruden's son have been sent to Knoxville Catholic.

That's the current rumor.

Gruden would be an o.k. hire but at what cost. If his salary demands are such that it makes it hard to restore UT athletics to financial stability, then it may be that a Gary Patterson, Chris Petersen, or other proven winner would be a better value overall for the Vols. Gruden isn't the only one that can restore Tn to prominence in football.
