So you think he's lying about talking to Gruden's brother?

Joe has been known to stretch the truth further than this in the past. I'm sure he has talked with Jay, but I highly doubt the quote was their conversation based on Biddle's history.

For clarification, I am not a Grudenite yet. Although I would love to see it happe, I don't believe Gruden ends up at TN. I also don't believe Biddle. I do believe Gruden has and possible is researching/considering the college game if/when it is presented to him.

What on earth would Jay Gruden do to get people off Jon's back????Jon can get people off his own back by simply saying something like "I respect the Tennessee program and wish them the best but I love working at ESPN and if I return to coaching, I would want it to be in the NFL" Then the bidding would start with Philadelphia....That I think would do it......

My problem with grudging is if he comes to Tennessee and win instantly then he will have multiple NFL teams all over him and when he leaves we will be back looking for a coach in three years. Right now we need a good solid coach with some loyalty. Everyone knows Gruden's end game is in the NFL.

Here's your problem. If Gruden comes to UT it's because no NFL team wants him, WHY? There's been 14 NFL coaches hired since Gruden left his last NFL team and he hasn't even been considered for any of those jobs, WHY?

Because he is getting paid by Tampa Bay not to coach, and he was waiting for Hamilton to get out of Tn and take this job that he knew would be open soon.:p:)

It's not uncommon during contract negotiations (whether in sports or business) for the person being hired to pretend he's not overly interested in the position, and for the person doing the hiring to pretend they don't have any money (e.g., Hart mentioning UT's paltry 1.9 million dollar reserve).

Gruden can't coach in The NFL until 2016. TB is paying him not to coach.

Are you actually thinking that Gruden wouldn't have his pick of NFL jobs right now? If he wanted to go that route he could do it without having to go through UT first. If he comes here, it is because he wanted to...

And for everyone who posts some info saying his contract says he CAN'T coach in the NFL until some future date, let me remind you of this:

1) I have never heard a reputable source outside of this message board claim that is true. If it was true (and binding) how come every pundit, talking head and media type when discussing his future doesn't say "well, he has to go coach in college because he can't coach in the NFL?" Almost universally the thought is that he will be coaching next year, and much speculation has been on whether or not it would be NFL or NCAA.

2) Even IF said contract has such a provision, it is unlikely to be upheld in a meaningful way. In other words, if the issue was litigated, he would probably just have to pay a penalty similar to a buy-out. Courts don't typically enforce agreements like that to the extent of banning someone from taking another job against the first job's contract. So it is a moot point.

Hey Vern... You know what?
There's these folks in Big Orange Country thinkin' Jon Gruden is gonna be their next football coach. Not sure what they're drinking but its got to be some pretty stout stuff.
Know what I mean?

Okay.

If Gruden wanted to turn down the rumors, he wouldn't let Joe Biddle or Jay Gruden do it for him. He'd do it himself, and he has had opportunities to do so.

It cannot be reiterated enough, the silence about the matter, from the important people involed, is deafening.

i see what you did there... brilliant! A sign that he's coming to knoxville. From a very reliable source too!

Ever heard of a non-compete clause?

I have heard Gruden doesn't like to coach young players however, I have also heard that he loves watching people eat their hats. This should be interesting.
