There are two numbers when negotiating. One that gets you the person you desire, and the other that doesn't. If you have the opportunity to get Gruden, you do.

According to reports, Auburn paid 3.75 million dollars per win (so far) to its staff this year.

To be fair, it'll likely be down to 2.5 million dollars per win by the end of the week.

Let's say you do get him for 5 million per, what do you guys consider "worth it" after 5 years? What would he have had to have done as your coach to say it was worth all the money you gave him?

If you can't tell us then you are obviously FOS. Troll.

Go back and check my history. Ive never brought any info before. I do now and am a troll....go with that.:)

Im not here to convince anyone, I bring what I hear, its for you to judge.

Just happened to be in the right place at the right time on this one...In my line of work, lets just say, my skills are required any time the hiring of new personnel is facilitated, so I hear things...:)

Is this an accurate synopsis so far?

LOL

I heard there were 3 contract options put in front of him. All around $5million per, but with differences in term and buyout.

10 years was one of the options.

So if JG is what we all think he is, what's wrong with a ten year deal...as long as the buyout is UT favorable?

Easy for me to say regardless of circumstance. We pay coaches, specifically football coaches, way too much money for what they do.

...Like I said, it's probably market-driven, but it's just sad we've gotten to that point in society where we don't care what we pay our coach if he is winning, but get frustrated when we find out our boss makes 100K and think "he/she is overpaid, not worth it." etc

It reminds me of the quote attributed to Babe Ruth. When he signed his first $100k contract, he was asked why he was worth more than the President. His response was along the lines of "I had a better year than the President. And thousands of people don't necessarily want to go watch the President work each day."

Excuse me if I butchered the quotes, but I think you see my point. As obscene as the amounts we pay our athletes and coaches, not to mention entertainers, there's apparently an intrinsic value in what they do that is beyond many of our comprehensions.

Can someome give me an update on Gruden and what everyone is thinking? I don't have enough time to look through all these pages.

Thanks

I would rather have him for 10 years rather than three...and yes, I get the ramifications if we gamble wrong.
