Long term strong is the better choice IMO but more risky.

Agreed. To be honest, Patterson would not be as high on my list as he is with many people on here. I think he is a good coach, but has also benefited from taking over a program that Franchione had heading in the right direction, a recruiting hotbed, and so so competition.

I know we've been horrible all season, and fully expected we might lose today. But I'm still amazed at just how horendeous this staff is. I could write a thesis on this stuff, it's just so amazingly mind baffling and frustrating.

That would be my worry as well. No real ties to the south, and no way he could consistently get us in with top kids from Texas over Texas and Texas A&M. I think we would see a situation where it would be very mediocre recruiting for a couple of years while he build relationships with schools and recruits in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, etc.
We don't need a HC with SEC ties/experience. You could say the very same thing about Pete Carroll, Peterson, or Chip Kelly. Bogus reason, IMHO.

That's why you hire a number of assistants with Southern recruiting ties.

Now they are calling for Tresell. Please make it stop.
Who is? FWIW, Tressel is on the same level as Saban, Meyer, and Stoops. If the AD could live with a 5 game penalty (he'd have to sit the first 5 out...however, he already paid that penalty as an assistant for Indy, last year), we'd be getting in return, and for dirt cheap, one of the most winningest HC's in the past decade. Absolutely terrorized Michigan, Penn State and the rest of the Big Ten.

I think he'd be an absolute steal. Could get him cheap, and invest more heavily in an all star staff. One of those staff members could hold down the fort for the first 5 games (again, since he already paid the penalty, pretty likely that the NCAA would grant some reduction).

He made a mistake, but not a particularly egregious one, and he is not a dirty coach.

If the same thing happened to Saban, and the job came open a year later, would we be interested? If the answer is yes or maybe, then the same answer should apply to Tressel.

NM. Would rather have Gruden anyway. Patterson seems like a good choice. I always liked Stubby when he was at the barn but he may have shat in his nest today.

Screw stubby. Known that they cheated in that era of barn, auburn, war eagle, etc time. Plus F him for slapping a coach. Patterson or Gruden.

Every time I venture to the FF, or in one of several candidate threads.
